The defrost drain pan collects water that melts off the evaporator during automatic defrost and holds it near the warm compressor so it can evaporate. Replacing a damaged pan helps prevent leaks, puddles, and odors around the base of the refrigerator.

  • Collects defrost water routed from the evaporator drain
  • Positions water in warm airflow near the compressor for evaporation
  • Replace if the pan is cracked, warped, missing, or leaking
  • Symptoms can include water on the floor, moisture under the unit, or musty odors
What's included: 1 defrost drain pan Install notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator; wear cut-resistant gloves
  • Pull the unit forward and remove the lower rear access panel to reach the pan near the compressor
  • Lift out the old pan; transfer any reusable clips/brackets; seat the new pan under the drain tube and ensure it's level and clear of moving parts
  • Reinstall the panel, restore power, and check for proper drainage and evaporation

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Defrost Pan (Refrigerator) (Part Number: OEM21644976)

Hello Liz. The refrigerator will need to be tilted to the right as you face it from the front so the compressor oil does not travel into parts of the sealed system where it will cause a problem. The retaining screws for the defrost pan 241697602 are accessible from the bottom. The unit should be empty and disconnected from the power supply before tilting and/or servicing. I would recommend pouring about 4 to 6 tablespoons of white vinegar in the drain to kill the bacteria in the pan. This will help a lot since some of the odor will be coming from the defrost drain tube.

Troy, First check to the defrost drain pan 241697603 is a good idea, make sure there are no cracks or holes in the pan, and the drain hose is seated properly in the pan. Then check to see if there is a sheet of ice on the freezer floor, this would indicate a clogged defrost drain opening and tube, and will need to be deiced and cleared using hot water or a hair dryer and towels to clean up the mess. Make sure both doors are closing and sealing properly. If the issue were the ice maker it would leak more often than once a week, it cycles about every two hours until the ice bin is full and shuts off.

Hi Stanley, check to see if your drain trough 241801301 or drain tube 240500801 is obstructed. When your freezer enters the defrost cycle to melt frost build up on the evaporator, the water is supposed to go down into the drain pan at the bottom of your unit. If the drain is obstructed, water can leak where it doesn't belong. Hope this helps!

Hello Becky. The part you requested info on was the defrost pan. This is not a part that can be "tested". It provides a holding pan for defrosting water from the coils. A simple visual inspection will tell you if this part is damaged. Thank you for choosing us!

Hello Becky. To remove the pan 241697603, you will need to drop the bottom of the refrigerator. It is easier to use towels to dry the water out of the pan. You will need to test the defrost heater 242044113 and thermostat 5303918214. They should read closed for continuity when cold. If they are good, you will need to replace the control board 5303918340. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
