Preston, Once you pull the e-clip and washer off you would just pull on the pulley and the cam and pulley will come straight off.

Jennifer for Model Number WBSR3140D5WW

Hello, last month my GE washer stopped agitating...I did some research online and ended up buying a coupler (sp) I put the new one on and I cannot for the Life of me get the agitator to go down as far as it should, the 1st few times it would pop up as it started washing. Finally I got it to where it stopped popping up and I thought all is well that ends well, even though I did not like the extra gap between drum and agitator.....Now a month later the agitator is popping up again and I cannot get it to go down as far as I know it should......I noticed on the agitator itself, the Splines? The grooves that slide down over my new coupler and are suppose to slide down nice... Well the grooves on the agitator are worn.......do you think this could be the problem? They are worn and kind of smooshed.........I am a girl so I do not know the proper words and I have never fixed any type of appliance before, I even was looking for a used washer online , then I decided to google alittle and that is how I fixed it (so I thought) for less then 20 bucks!! So smooshed worn grooves on inside of agitator , suppose to line up and slide down on coupler........Think maybe I need a new agitator? hahha, Maybe I never needed the coupler , maybe it was the agitator all along....Help Please???

Hello Jennifer. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like you need to replace the agitator.

Dennis, Make sure that the splines are lined up with agitator and slide the agitator down. Once down you will have to push real hard to get the agitator to pop into place because there are fingers that wrap around the bottom of the coupling.

I determined today that my GE washing machine is from either February of 1977 or 1989. I think it's most likely 1989, but do not know. The agitator does not spin well unless I forcefully push down on the column. The agitator usually pops up off of the column after one or two heavy loads of wash. I assume that some sort of friction piece is missing or has degraded. I have uploaded 3 pictures of my washer in hopes that you could help me understand which part I need to buy. The first and second are of the drive column, the third is the inside top of the agitator piece. http://postimage.org/image/x9aitpdft/ http://postimage.org/image/vrp2i58p5/ http://postimage.org/image/bbe1zwyfd/ The agitator/spline coupling piece on your website has 4 pictures; the second looks just like mine, the third looks much thicker as if mine is missing an outer friction ring or something. Thank you so much for the input.

Matt, Looking at the pictures that you sent the agitator WH43X102 would need to be replaced on unit as the inner part that meets with the spline is worn down. The spline comes with the agitator so you will get both pieces.

Hello Jennifer. You will need to use a pick tool and then you can stick the coupler and pull it out of the agitator. The 90° pick tool should work the best here.

Hi Joel. On top of the transmission shaft is a separate ribbed Agitator Spline Coupler part # WH1X1944 that holds the agitator on. If the outer hardened rubber splines are stripped off then it will be difficult to realign the agitator replacement. Use a little white grease on the trans. -to - inner coupler splines when installing. This part comes with instructions. Thank You.

Frank, The coupler is a "friction" fit and has splines on the inside to attach it to the transmisson output shaft. You will need a "gear puller" to lift it ory remove it from the shaft. As a last resort, you could try cutting it off with a "dremel" tool or chisel and hammer, but you need to be careful. Good Luck

Hello John. Get the coupling WH1X1944 started on the shaft, then tighten the bolt in the center to seat the coupling onto the shaft.

Hello Jackie. If there is no bolt in the center of the agitator, you will pull upward on the agitator to remove it. These can be very tight and hard to remove from the coupling WH1X1944. Hope this helps.
