Gilbert, Based on this issue it does sound like the main control board would be the issue with the unit.

Had defrost problem, top half of Evaporator coil frozen including thermostat and evaporator thermistor. I checked def. heater and it was good, but found Evaporator Thermistor & Bottom freezer thermistor way out of range. Replaced thermistors & thermostat plugged in fridge and Compressor won't run and neither will condenser fan run, but evaporator fan runs constantly. Tested board for Fan motors and the only test that failed was condenser fan motor J2 plug pins 3 & 5 I got 0.03 to 0.04. Neither my compressor or condenser fan will run. My compressor checked out good. Is the problem with the main board?

1 Answer

Mark, Based on the information it does sound like the main control board will be faulty and need to be replaced.

Robin, If you are unable to get the control to respond then this would likely be caused by a faulty display board on the unit.

Hello Kay! You'll want to try to use a pair of needle nose pliers or a flat blade screwdriver to try to pry or gain some leverage on the connector. You wouldn't want to spray any wd40 on your electrical board. Good luck!

The freezer in my fridge frosts up and the drain ices up. I cleaned out the drain line and ran bleach trough it to ensure no mold. I replaced the defrost timer and the freezer fan with no luck. I checked the defrost heater - it appears to be working intermittently. It was hot when I first took off the back freezer cover but was cold after I cleaned the drain tube. Reading the online repair hints it seems the control board might be bad. The problem is I cant find the board. There is no access panel on the back of the fridge as shown on Utube. Does this fridge have a control board? If not, do you have any idea what the problem is?

Paul, Your top mount refrigerator Does Not have a control board. You have the "basic" controls, defrost timer, heater, thermostat and cold control and compressor. The defrost heater is only energized until the temperature is reached, this usually takes 12 to 15 minutes, the remainder of the defrost cycle time 12-15 minutes is to allow the defrost water to drain and evacuate the freezer compartment. Then the refrigerator has to run a total of 8 hours of compressor run time, before the defrost cycle occurs again. Now that you have the defrost drain system cleared and clean, you may want to give the refrigerator a few days(3 to 5) to operate and see if the frost or ice reappears on the freezer back wall. Make sure both the doors are closing and sealing properly as well.

Paul, This unit does not have a control board on it. With the intermittent issue this would most likely be one of the defrost thermostats that is faulty. This has 2 of them which both are located on the right side of the evaporator and are in series with one another. The part number will be WR50X10025.

Brian for Model Number GSS25XSRESS

I have a fridge that is freezing cold at the bottom and warm on the top shelf. The freezer has the same issue, top shelf is not freezing food. I had the evap fan replaced with no change at all. The fan still only runs sometimes, compressor is always running. I tested the J2 connector pins 3&8, they are at 12.9V DC, however, 3&4 only read 1.8V DC even after leaving both doors open for 5-10 minutes. If I unplug the fridge and re-plug it, sometimes the voltage will climb on 3&4 pins from 1.8V to 12.9V DC and the fan starts running. Once the fridge reaches temperature the fan won't come back on except for once in a blue moon, but it does randomly come on and operate as it should, just rarely. Should I gamble the main board cost?

1 Answer

Brian, With having the fan already replaced then this will most likely be caused by the main control board for the unit.
