The Drive Belt is an OEM part for GE washing machines. It functions as a critical component that connects the motor to the drum, transferring power from the motor, which in turn allows the drum to spin during the wash cycle. Made from rubber reinforced with fibers, this belt is designed to withstand the stress of spinning and agitating motions.

Symptoms of a bad Drive Belt include:

  • The washing machine drum not spinning,
  • A squealing or screeching sound when the washer is running,
  • Visible fraying, glazing, or signs of wear on the belt,
  • The belt slipping off the motor or drum pulley.

Causes of drive belt failure typically include regular wear and tear from use, overloading of the washer which puts extra strain on the belt, or exposure to oils and other substances that can degrade the rubber.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Gail, This issue sounds like it may be a couple of things going on. The first would be a bad pressure switch causing the unit to sense that it is still full and when you switch it from large to small and back it allows it to work. The second would be stuck contacts in the timer.

Ronald C for Model Number wwa8800rblwh

My washer is having problems agitating. It pumps water fine and will spin. When I looked at the drive components I found a heavy lubricating grease like substance ( molybdenum ?) had been deposited all over the place. I cleaned off the drive pulleys and belt And tightened the belt.. But the agitation is not consistent. I believe this is a pattern failure. Does this mean the transmission has failed? Can it be repaired? If so what parts would be needed? Thanks

Hello Ronald. The part you are needing, WH38X53 has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part.

Joev, This unit is a direct drive in which the motor mounts directly to the transmission. The motor coupling attaches between the 2 to allow them to work together. You will want check the motor coupler 285753A to make sure that it is not wearing or becoming damaged.

Lyle, This issue would be caused by a bad spin bearing on the tub which will need to be replaced.

Juliaeph, You will want to check to make sure that there is nothing caught in between the tubs that would cause the unit to not spin. Check to make sure that there is power getting to the motor when the unit is calling for the motor to spin. If there is power and the motor is humming then disconnect the belt and see if the motor turns. If it does then the brake of the unit would be the issue and you would need a new transmission. If there is power but the motor does not turn with the belt off then the motor is bad and would need to be replaced.

Lorene, the belt or motor would not be the issue. It's more likely an issue in the timer switches WH12X929 or the pressure switch circuit is not "closing" between terminal 7 and 16, completing the circuit to the motor in the agitate cycle.
