The Door Gasket Insert is an OEM part for GE dishwashers, specially designed to create a watertight seal along the dishwasher door's perimeter. This insert is crucial for preventing water from leaking out of the dishwasher during operation. It fits snugly into the door's groove, ensuring that the door closes securely and no water can escape during the washing and rinsing cycles.

Causes for a Door Gasket Insert to fail include regular wear and tear from daily use, exposure to harsh detergents and high temperatures, and physical damage from loading and unloading dishes.

Symptoms of a bad Door Gasket Insert include:

  • Water leaking from around the dishwasher door.
  • The dishwasher door feels loose or doesn't close as tightly as before.
  • Visible signs of wear, such as cracks, brittleness, or deformation in the gasket.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Door Gasket Insert (Part Number: OEM6116637)

1 Answer

Josh, The "gaps between the insert and seal" shouldn't affect the operation or leaks from the door, as long as everything is installed properly. But you'll need to check the lower spray arm, for split seams and/or debris in the venturi openings, directing water towards the door seal. Make sure the lower spray arm moves/rotates freely without sticking anywhere in the rotation.

Pam, The next thing to check is the spray arm assembly WD22X155. If there is a crack in the casing, a crack in the end of the spray arm, or debris partially clogging a jet opening, the water can be redirected down, and along the bottom of the door and "blow out" the bottom around the insert and leak. Also make sure the dishwasher tub is level, and filling properly (water should be 3/4 to 1 inch deep along the front of the tub opening).

Hello Sam. There is a slot that the gasket insert will push into. To remove this insert you would just pull it straight out and push the new on straight in.

Joel, Based on your model number it does not appear that there is a center seal for the door. If yours does have on then it would use part number WD08X10015.

Hello Carole. Make sure the unit does not have to much soap in it. Also, make sure the float is not sticking and overfilling the unit.

Part Number: AP2038876 MFG Part Number: WD08X10015 When inserting the gasket insert, which way does it face? I know the 3 tabs point down, but does the top part go on the inside or outside of the gasket seal? I changed the seal, baffles, took the door liner off, cleaned excess detergent, inserted the gasket insert with the top part on the outside (closer to the bottom of the dishwasher), and still have a leak. When I took the door liner off, part of the black sponge along the inside bottom was compressed - can this be causing the leak? Can anything be done about this?

1 Answer

C.L, The black sponge being depressed would not cause a leak. The Gasket insert top will go on the inside of the gasket seal.

Hello Jason, The Gasket insert goes a the bottom of the door and is just a push in gasket.

Hello Jenny, The issue may not be the gasket at all. You see, the door gasket goes around three sides of the door. The bottom has no gasket because it is an air gap used as an air intake for the dry cycle. In the case that the leak is from sloshing over the air gap, the issue could be either debris in the spray arm causing a "wave" in the water with each rotation of the spray arm, or an over soap situation where the suds are building higher than the air gap. Either way, water will drip from the corner of the door. The excess length of the door gasket just goes straight down, evened out from side to side. It kind of folds toward the front of the unit, but goes under nothing.

E, You may want to remove the inner door liner, so you can check and clean any debris that has developped on the bottom edge of the door liner, and make sure the insert has been snapped and locked in place properly. You'll need to remove power to the dishwasher and remove the six T-20 torx screws from the inner door liner to remove and check it. Thanks and Good Luick
