The Ice Maker Fill Tube Grommet is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This grommet creates a seal between the ice maker fill tube and the refrigerator, preventing leaks and ensuring that water is properly directed into the ice maker during the filling process.

Causes of a bad grommet can include regular wear and tear, damage from exposure to freezing and thawing cycles, or degradation from exposure to water and moisture.

Symptoms of a bad ice maker fill tube grommet include:

  • Water leaks around the ice maker fill tube area
  • Ice maker not producing ice properly
  • Visible cracks or deformation in the grommet
  • Water pooling inside or around the refrigerator

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Ice Maker Fill Tube Grommet (Part Number: OEM6180528)

James Attebury for Model Number FFHS2611LBNA

My Frigidaire Refrigerator (4 or 5 yrs. old) makes a loud buzzing noise on the freezer side. I've seen other You Tube videos were the ice maker fill tube is the problem. Why is the top part of the tube cut away? The cut away part of the tube allows water to splash down on the Evaporator Fan Blade and the Fan Blade Shroud. The ice build up on the blade and shroud causes the buzzing noise when the Fan Motor comes on. Where can I get a replacement Water Fill Tube that is no NOT cut away?

1 Answer

James, The "cut away" fill tube 241796405 is designed, with the cut out, to reduce or relieve the possibility of the fill tube freezing up completely. If you have water splashing over or overfilling the fill tube, you will need to make other checks to the water system. Check the filter for replacement, check the reservoir for air, check the water pressure to the refrigerator, and make sure the fill tube is properly seated and sealed to the refrigerator wall and aligned to the ice maker fill spout.

Hello Ken. The fill tube is frozen and clogged. Clean out the fill tube and replace the water valve to fix the issue.

Hello Matt. The pan is under the unit. However, if the drain is clogged, the pan will be dry. You need to clean out the drain on the unit.

If the ice maker fill tube is freezing up, could the problem be a bad water supply unit allowing water to flow up the back water supply line constantly when not filling the ice treys? I am certain that the water line tap is not shutting off completely since I am still getting a constant drip out of the water line running up to the ice maker after more than 18 hours. I have removed the grommet and frozen ice maker fill line and removed the ice from the line. This leads me to believe that the water valve in the back bottom right corner is faulty and letting water flow through went not needed.

1 Answer

Gary, You would be correct in the water valve would be seeping causing water to trickle to the icemaker and freeze the fill tube up.

Hello Gary. This is caused by a frozen fill tube. You will need to thaw out the fill tube on the unit.

Leo for Model Number 36350222000

Noticed excessive ice buildup around grommet and fill tube. Fill tube is actually being pushed out of grommet. Shut the water supply off and thawed out ice. Buildup was only around grommet area and fan area at top. Rest of freezer and cooling coils and defrost heater was clear of ice. Even with water shut off for 10 days now, ice is forming inside fill tube and pushing it out of grommet, and ice is building up around grommet and fan area. Makes no sense with water shut off. Do you think it's a bad grommet and tube? Can this be retro fitted with the one piece fill tube like what was shown in video? Any ideas?

1 Answer

Hello Leo. If the water is off, and it was still freezing, you have an issue with warm air coming around the grommet into the freezer. It sounds like the grommet needs to be replaced.

Russ for Model Number PSC25PSWA SS

Freezer works ok and the icemaker works ok but the icemaker periodically goes into a defrost mode and melts the ice in the ice tray after it has been made. However, the items in the freezer below the first shelf remain frozen Water then runs out of the ice tray and creates a big ice cycle down in the freezer compartment. After I dump all the water and ice that hasn't melted yet out of the tray and shut the icemaker switch off for a little while, then turn the switch back on the icemaker seems to work fine for a day or two and then goes back into the defrost mode. Do you have an answer to what the problem could be with the icemaker? Thanks Russ

1 Answer

Russ, The icemaker would not go into a defrost mode as there is not one on it. What the issue sounds like is that the icemaker is hanging up when it is calling for water and causing the icemaker to overfill and run down the to create the icicle effect. For this issue you will want to replace the icemaker assembly. The part number for the icemaker would be part number WR30X10093 as the icemaker in the unit cannot be repaired but has to be replaced per the manufacturer.

I just replaced both solenoids, tubing, and filter on this side-by-side refrigerator. Water works now, but icemaker is still not filling. I heard the water try to cycle a couple times last night, but could not get to the freezer to observe. Still no water in form. The icemaker does cycle. I poured water into the form last night and had ice this morning. Removed the icemaker and back plate, and noted that the fill tube was loose from the grommet. Fill tube was empty. Grommet is flush with back wall of freezer, and may have cracked off. How are grommet and fill tube connected? Could it be that water was getting to the grommet and running down the back wall inside the freezer? It only tried to cycle water for 1-2 seconds. Does the form have a sensor to shut off water on no flow? Tonight I'll disconnect the tube and see if I get water flow.

1 Answer

Fred, The fill tube does not have a flow sensor in it. The icemaker determines the length of time that the water should come into the unit. If the fill tube is broken off then you would want to replace the fill tube. If the unit is only trying to fill for 1-2 seconds then you would need to replace the icemaker.

Chris for Model Number CSX27DMA

No water is currently flowing into ice maker to make ice & I'm trying to find the cause; verified water pump is working properly; I removed the water line to the grommet on the back of the unit; removed ice maker from freezer; blew out the line from the back of the unit that goes into the freezer; I felt pressure on the inside 1/4 inch water line that feeds the ice tray - but the air flow was somewhat weak; I tried to force water thru the grommet on the back of the unit, no good - the water just came back & dripped down the hose I was blowing thru; Could their be frozen water inside the grommet, between the back on the unit & where the water flows into the ice maker? (I think that's the only answer - I think) Can I removed the grommet assembly on the back of the unit by just pulling & twisting on it? Or do I have to go thru the freezer compartment & get at the grommet & 1/4 inch hose ? I also tried to use 2 blow dryers, one from the back & one inside the freezer compartment to see if i could defrost the possible frozen water - no good. When the water tries to fill the ice maker, the water is forced back out the water feed line in the back of the unit & drips down the back of the fridge. What do you guys think ?? thanks, chris

1 Answer

Hello Chris. Yes, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the grommet WR2X8474 and the fill tube is frozen and will need to be thawed out. Hope this helps.
