The Ice Door Assembly is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is integral to the ice dispenser system, controlling access to the ice chute. This component ensures the efficient delivery of ice cubes or crushed ice when activated and seals off the chute when not in use to maintain the freezer's temperature and prevent frost buildup.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Door Assembly include:

  • Frost or ice buildup around the dispenser area
  • Ice escaping from the dispenser when not in use
  • Failure to dispense ice
  • Noise during operation indicating misalignment or malfunction

Causes of a bad Ice Door Assembly can include mechanical wear from frequent use, failure of the spring mechanism or solenoid that operates the door, or damage to the sealing surfaces that leads to air leaks.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Ice Door Assembly (Part Number: OEM11017755)

Betty, You will want to test to see if there is 12vdc to the dispenser door and if there is not power check the wire harness connection at the door. If this checks ok then the main board would be the issue. If there is power to the board but no lights come on then the dispenser control board would be the issue.

Janet, thank you for your question, Make sure the clips that hold the hinge is not broken. If it is you would need the bracket that holds the door seal and the housing, if it is not broken, you would need to only order the ice door seal,, 241688701, this would be a black rubber door seal that keeps air from leaking into the freezer through the door chute.

On our Stainless steel GE Monogram the ice chute door started sticking about six months ago and now is stuck open. This causes air to flow up in the chute and ice over. Based on the various Q&A reads, I have concluded that I should replace the solenoid, ice shut flap, recess crank and spring - maybe not be all these pieces are bad, but it seems like I need to remove the SS door skin to remove the control panel and get access. Please confirm. My problem is how to access to do the repair. Is removing the skin as simple as it sounds? just removing screws on the top, bottom and inside hinge side? Initially I was going to access the ice door and solonoid and confirm what needs to be done, but removing the stainless steel skin and door handles send a big deal.

Paul, Yes removing the door skin is as simple as removing the screws from the top, bottom and removing the handle and the panel will come off.

Hello Jerry, On this model, you will need to grasp the bottom of the dispenser board with your fingers and yank out and up on it to remove it. The outer trim need not be removed to access the ice door on this, GSHS3KGXHCSS, design.

I removed the four screws from the assembly but it would not slide out. I don't want to force it but it appears something else is holding it or it's stuck on the right-side as you face the refrigerator. I feels like it has another screw, tab or something keeping it from coming out. Videos show it dropping out, not the case here. All videos show same thing on a demo fridge and it just falling out. Fridge schematic doesn't show any connectors or screws please help

Bill, The assembly, once the screws are removed should just pull out and there is no trick to removing them.

Robert, The water line in the door is not a replaceable part without replacing the complete door assembly. You will want to check to make sure that there is a good filter in the unit and disconnect the water supply line at the bottom of the door and see if the same water flow is coming out from the line under the dispenser when the lever is pushed. If it is the same slower flow then the water filter or water valve would be most likely. If it comes out normal then the water line in the door may be freezing up which would require a door for the unit.

Dianne, The ice door flapper snaps and locks in place. Sometimes, if you're careful, you can reinstall the flapper on the pivot, without dismantling the dispenser assembly. But, it's easier of you do dismantle the dispenser. Check and make sure the clips on the flapper and the clips on the pivot/crank aren't damaged or distorted then clip and snap the flapper onto the pivot/ crank. The video attached to WR17X11653, should be very helpful.

Hello Kevin, Once the four screws are removed, the only thing that should be in the way of the housing is the water line. It will need to be carefully removed from the assembly as the housing is slowly pulled out.
