Hello Mary. If you can start the drum by hand, then the motor is bad and will need to be replaced.

Trying to narrow down my issue. At first the dryer would stop a 60 to 70 min timed cycle 5 to 10 minutes after starting. I pulled it apart, cleaned everything thoroughly. Put back together and now it runs without quitting but doesn't dry clothes. I ran with top off a few times and notice the heating coil lighting up about a minute after running and staying lit for about 2 to 3 minutes but then turning off. So I know it is one of 6 things perhaps. Thermostats, motor switch, or timer switch. I continuity tested all thermos. They all checked out. So I put a bypass in parallel between the two larger gauge wires on the harness that plugs into the motor (I think pink and red but don't recall, if looking from the top of the motor it's the far left two in the harness) The dryer now works. So does that mean the motor switch is faulty that switches on the heating coil? Could the control timer still be causing it. Not sure how to isolate the control timer.

Michael, If you bypassed the motor switch and the unit runs and heats then the switch on the motor would be faulty and would require a new motor.

My dryer is making a loud squealing noise and shutting off mid cycle. My husband informed me that he ripped out some of the felt seal and didn't think to replace it. I ordered the part and replaced it thinking that would fix the squealing. It didn't. I am currently waiting on a Rear Drum Bearing Sleeve and O Ring because I thought that was the problem. But now after watching youtube videos, I'm thinking it might be the motor due to the dryer shutting off mid cycle. Any help you can give? What do you think the problem is?

Roberta, You are on the right track with replacing the rear bearing but you also need to check the bearings in the front of the unit also. If the bearings are bad then it cause undue drag on the motor causing it to overheat and shut down.

Baffled. Push start, nothing. No hum or anything. Checked power going in. Power confirmed @ the white 2 conductor plug inside the unit going over to the motor. Proofed the door switch which is good. What do I do next? It’s as if the unit is not getting power. Symptoms: A light load of bed sheets were left partially dried and (while not present) the unit evidentially shut off. Barrel turns freely, no apparent transport problems that I could see. Idler/tensioner was in place with belt properly on it when I disassembled, and the unit always ran quietly. What do I look at next? I have a volt ohm meter. Other switches anywhere? Certain resistances to look for across certain terminals? REALLY appreciate the help. Pete

Steve, There is no type of reset or device that would prevent the operation of the motor. You will want to check any pulley or drum bearing to make sure that they are not binding and causing the drum to not turn but it sounds like a motor would be what is needed.

Hello Sylvia. Make sure the drum is not binding up. If not, you will need to replace the motor in the unit.
