The Ice Auger Motor is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It powers the auger that moves ice from the ice maker into the dispenser, allowing for smooth and efficient ice dispensing. Functioning at 115V, 60 Hz, and 3.2 Amps, it is crucial for the operation of the ice dispenser.

You should replace this ice auger motor if it fails due to wear and tear, electrical issues, or mechanical damage. A malfunctioning motor can result in the ice not dispensing properly, or the motor may make unusual noises indicating it’s struggling to function.

Symptoms of a bad ice auger motor include:

  • Ice not dispensing from the refrigerator
  • Grinding or buzzing noises from the ice dispenser
  • Auger not turning or moving ice
  • Intermittent or no ice flow

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Ice Auger Motor (Part Number: OEM13011873)

Vic for Model Number GSS201EPJBB

When I put a glass into the dispenser and press to get ice cubes, crushed ice or water nothing happens no sounds of any kind, the ice maker does make ice. The bin is always filled with ice, I made sure of this by emptying the bin twice, I checked to see if there were any cubes blocking the auger area or blocking the shut , no blockages all clear. When I press the command buttons for ice they do light up and the light works when pressed with the glass, but still no sounds of anything turning like the auger. Would appreciate your help in this enjoying matter, thank you.

Hello Vic, This sounds like possibly a wiring issue at the hinge. If the wiring at the door hinge is good, the control board has to be the issue. There are two control boards and both are tied into the dispense feature. To determine which is the issue, you will need to check for voltages in and out of the dispense board. If the voltage in at the dispense board isn't consistent with the wiring diagram, the main board is the issue. If the voltages coming into the dispense board are correct, the output voltages should be checked from the dispense board. If the inputs are good and outputs aren't, the dispense board will require replacement. If the outputs at the dispense board are good, the issue is probably a wiring issue. Check your e-mail for more information. The wiring diagram is in there also. Be aware that the voltage to the auger motor should be 120Vac. Chauncey, Yes the auger motor boot WR02X11295 will help aleviate the frozen auger motor symptom. You also need to check and make sure the ice dispenser door is closing and sealing properly WR17X11653. As forthe overflowing ice condition, you may want to order and install a new feeler arm WR49X10103, it was designed for too much ice.

Hello David, The bottom of the ice bin has a long rod on it. This is kind of like a shifter rod as it determines whether the ice will be dispensed through the crusher blades or diverted around them. If it is working freely, check the hole in the auger motor housing at the back of the shelf the crusher bin sits on. It should have a square plastic piece that the rod end should fit into. If it is stuck in the up position, this is the cause of the issue. Pull it down so the rod will go into it when the bin is put back in. If it is frozen and you cannot move it, use a hair dryer to thaw it out. If it is frozen, you should check the ice door to insure it's closing fully and seated. Using a flashlight from the outside, look in the inside at the ice door WR17X11653 and you should see no light. If you can see light, the ice door is not seating and should be serviced next. You also should make sure, (with a freezer thermometer), that the freezer compartment isn't running below 0°F.

Hello Ray. These usually have a left handed thread. Also, they can become very tight so rapping on the yoke will many times "impact" it loose. Have a great day!

Paul for Model Number GSS22QFMAWW

Hello, I have the GE GSS22QFMAWW Side by Side Refrigerator. It is making ice ok but when I put the button to dispense ice the motor hums but nothing comes out and it does not turn. When I take the motor out and thaw out, put it back in it will work for a little while and then freezes up again. The model number is MOD 3724UP-350 Ice Crusher. I thought I had a bad motor so I purchased a brand new one, it worked for two days and then did the same thing. I don't have any kind of rubber boot on it. Can you please let me know what I can do to fix this. Thank you so much, Paul.

Hello Paul. The auger motor freezing up is going to be directly related to either the freezer compartment running below zero or moisture introduction from humidity leaking into the compartment (normally through the ice door). Of course you check for the temperature with a Fahrenheit thermometer. You check for an air leak at the ice door,WR17X11653 by shining a flashlight from one side while looking from the other side. Correcting either or both of these problems will normally correct the issue for the most part, although it may still freeze up if conditions change in the installation environment (i.e. room temperature, room humidity, etc.). Sure hope this helps you out!

Becka, First thing to check, the dispenser cube door / flapper, and make sure there are no air leaks around the opening when the door is closed. Check and make sure the freezer air temperature is between 3 and 5 dgrs. F. Then Lube the motor shaft assembly with " vaseline" and install a new auger motor boot WR02X11295. Good Luck and Thanks

Paul for Model Number GSS22QFMAWW

Hello, I had my ice crusher keep freezing up. I thawed it out and it worked again for a couple hours. So I bought a used motor. It did the same thing. Finally I purchased a brand new motor. It worked for 3 days and then froze up. It makes the humming noise and is trying to move but can't. I replaced the water inlet to Ice and Water outlet and it still does this. Is there some kind of heater or cover to keep the motor from freezing up, or any other ideas. Thank you for your time.

1 Answer

Hi Paul. There is a brand new part # WR02X11295 which is a auger motor boot cover. Make sure all dispenser components such as the bin auger and the cutter teeth. Do not let the ice maker over flow the bin. Regulate the on/off of the ice maker to make sure there is no overflow chips that will get into the motor and freeze. Make sure there is no door gasket openings or chute flapper seal openings so outside warm temperatures will collect , freeze parts and break parts. Keep the freezer @ 0 - 2°. No colder. Thank You.

Hello Dennis. You will turn the two large fingers of the yoke clockwise, you may need to tap them with a hammer to break it free, and the unit will unscrew off the motor WR60X10258. Hope this helps.

Joe, Do you use a lot of ice ? Cubes sitting in the dispenser bin, have a tendency to melt together or shrink if, there are a lot of freezer door openings, if the dispenser flapper door is not sealing when it's closed, and when the fridge goes into the defrost cycles. Some shrinkage and "clumping" is normal, in certain usage situations. Thanks and Good Luck

Tony, the jam nut has reversed threads(counterclockwise) You may have to hold the motor shaft with a pair of pliers,(until you break it loose) then you should be able to turn it by hand. Good Luck and Thanks
