The Ice Auger Motor is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It powers the auger that moves ice from the ice maker into the dispenser, allowing for smooth and efficient ice dispensing. Functioning at 115V, 60 Hz, and 3.2 Amps, it is crucial for the operation of the ice dispenser.

You should replace this ice auger motor if it fails due to wear and tear, electrical issues, or mechanical damage. A malfunctioning motor can result in the ice not dispensing properly, or the motor may make unusual noises indicating it’s struggling to function.

Symptoms of a bad ice auger motor include:

  • Ice not dispensing from the refrigerator
  • Grinding or buzzing noises from the ice dispenser
  • Auger not turning or moving ice
  • Intermittent or no ice flow

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Jack, If you are referring to the nut on that holds the coupling on, no it does not have to be purchased to replace the auger motor.

Richard, To remove the crusher assembly you will remove the screw that is located on the side wall of the ice compartment. With screw removed you will remove the cover and disconnect icemaker. There is a clip on the front of the icemaker that you push down on and pull icemaker forward. Then you will disconnect the other wire harness that is plugged in which is for the auger motor assembly. There should be a push clip on the side of the housing that you would use a flat blade to release. Once released the auger assembly should pull straight out.

I replace the clear plastic Auger drive cup thinking that was the issue as it was marred up. But the auger would still not turn. The motor trunsand operates just as it should. Then I noticed that the drive auger wasnt spinning. So I looked at it and it is showing good threads but looks like a nut or sort is missing from holding the drive auger down tight to the auger motor shaft. What part do I need or what are the threads on the auger motor shaft? Thx

Hello Steve, If the auger drive coupling WR02X11534 is spinning freely on the drive shaft then the coupling and possibly the auger motor WR60X10259 would need to be replaced depending on how badly the auger motor shaft is stripped.

Hello John, The only way to get the auger drive cam WR02X11941 off is to wedge something under the cam and tap it to where the threading lines back up to remove and install new.

My water dispenses, freezer makes ice. Refrigerator will not dispense ice. The solenoid plunger is broken, in addition when I remove the ice tray, press the ice dispenser function from the front panel, I hear the motor (humming sond), but the auger does not turn. I am not very handy, does this sound like an issue with the auger motor and plunger (replacement) or could it be something else? Can a novice do the replacement, thinking of calling for service. Thanks,

Hello G., GE has had issues with the auger motor freezing up. This can be caused by an air leak from the ice door, an air leak from the fresh food or freezer door, or the temperature being set too cold in the freezer section. To thaw it out, remove the ice bin and use a hair dryer on the auger motor cover, (back of shelf where the ice bin sets). It takes about 15 minutes to thaw it out like this. From the description of your issue, replacing the ice door solenoid WR62X10055 will most likely prevent the auger motor from freezing again.

Jenn, You'll need a multi meter to check volatges at the main control board WR55X10942C at the J4 and J7 connectors. The J4 wires are the low (12 VDC) from the dispenser board WR55X10859 and the J7 connector are the Hi (120 VAC) circuits out to the auger motor. When you select ice ,and press the dispenser paddle, you should read 120 VAC across J7 pin 1 and J7 pin 9 on the main board, if you have the voltage, you. need to test or repalce the auger motorWR60X10258. if you don't have the voltage, you'll need to test the low voltage from the dispenser board on the J4 connector.

Hello John, Part #378 on the under the icemaker and dispenser diagram is the dispenser solenoid WR62X23154. This solenoid is used to switch from crushed to cubes. When it is in the down position it is set for crushed and when it activates and goes up it pulls the arm on the crusher bin up to allow cubes to come out. There is a flapper door on the crusher bin that the arm opens.

Hello Ted, If you can stop the motor by touching it slightly, and it has proper voltage to it, (120Vac), the motor WR60X10258 is bad, even if the threads are stripped since most of the time the threads on the motor shaft are the ones that strip. I would replace the yoke WR02X11941 also if the threads are stripped since it will mess up the threads on the old yoke to remove it from the old motor across the stripped threads.

Richard, You may want to start at the main control board WR55X10942C on the back of the refrigerator. The J4 connector on the main board is the low VDC circuits to the dispenser board WR55X10446 . If you have a loose connection or the board has started to degrade, the dispenser could react as you describe. Thanks
