The Bake Element is an OEM part for GE ovens, designed to provide the heat necessary for baking. This element is located at the bottom of the oven cavity and heats up when electricity is applied, converting electrical energy into heat to cook food evenly.

Over time, however, the bake element can wear out or become damaged.

Symptoms of a bad Bake Element include:

  • Visible signs of wear or damage, such as blistering, cracks, or breaks in the element.
  • A burnt out element that no longer glows red or heats up.
  • Food not baking evenly or thoroughly.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

For Ge Bake Element (Part Number: OEM6093000)

Bernie Steff for Model Number JBP78A Y1AA

Our bake element split and sparked when the oven was turned on. I don't recall if that happened right away when the knob was turned on. I saw an answer on a previous question for this model which I could not find on GE's website. The questioner was told the correct element was Part# WB44x10013. I would like to confirm this part number and wonder if that split could have been caused by another malfunction in the oven controls. Thanks Bernie Steff

Bernie, The correct part for your model is WB44X10013. The element failure you describe is only caused by an internal failure of the element itself.

Hello Kenneth, the cooktop burners are on separate 240v circuits in the stove also the broil element should not be affected by removing the bake element. The range wiring may need to be checked esp if the original bake element shorted when it failed.

Al, as the bake and broil elements are used during the bake cycle, it would be recommended that both elements are tested to ensure they are operational. With the range power cord unplugged and a multimeter, the bake element WB44T10011 would be tested for resistance and should measure 22O. The broil element WB44T10009 would be tested similarly and should measure 17O. The oven sensor WB23X5340 would be tested for resistance as well and should measure 1100O at room temperature. If these test good, the range can be plugged back in and the terminal block tested for a full 240VAC from the red wire to the black wire. If there is a proper voltage reading, the main control WB50T10043 would be suspect. The range should be able to reach the temperatures shown as being available within a standard preheat timeframe.

Lynn, it is possible that when the bake element arced, it may have damaged either the wiring or the control WB27X45466. With the range power cord unplugged, each wire can be tested for continuity from each oven element terminal to the wire ends at the control. If the wires test properly, then the control is not allowing a full 240VAC to reach the broil element.

Corbin, the element glowing red indicates that it should be working properly. The buzzing sound could be coming from a relay that is arcing from not having proper contact in the control board. It would be recommended to inspect the unit for any signs of arcing between the wires and the cabin, as well as signs of an overheating connection in the control board.

Colleen, for the model number you supplied, both the bake and broil element are rated at 3400 watts and should have a resistance reading of 16 to 17 ohms resistance. Thanks,
