Questions & Answers

For Ge Piston & Nut Assembly (Part Number: OEM7852041)

Jill, There are a couple of screws that hold the filter frame in place in the back of the unit, You will just need to pull the screws out and lift the frame cover off. This will allow you to be able to get in there to stick a shop vac in to clean it.

Skeeter, The piston and nut assembly would not have a bearing on the upper spray arm but the check valve assembly WD22X10024 would cause the issue.

I was cleaning crud from the top of the piston/nut assembly. I did not know what this part did or how it functions as a piston. After cleaning, the piston "dropped down" and I can see the top of it slightly below the edge of the opening. I can take pliers and move it up and down easily but it doesn't stay in the "up" position. Is it functioning properly with the piston in the lower position with the dishwasher off or did I damage the piston assembly and need to replace it? Thanks for your help!

1 Answer

Skeeter, The piston dropping down would be caused by a missing spring in the assembly and the piston and nut assembly WD24X10018 would need to be replaced.

Barbara, The only way to get it out would be to take a pair of needle nose plies and shove them down into the nut and wedge it in and twist out.

HELP! I removed the screen with two screws in the back of the dishwasher. I saw what appears to have two white teeth on either side which I am guessing is the Piston and nut assembly. It will not budge or unscrew. It looks almost as if it appears to be part of the inside of the tub. Please help as am I looking in the wrong place? Do I take pliers and unscrew from inside the piston and nut assembly? I cant seem to get it loose no matter how hard I try.

1 Answer

Nancy, You would just unscrew the piston and nut assembly from inside the unit using needle nose pliers.

Bill, You're on track. The piston nut assembly can create an issue similar to your description " On these units washability complaints or no pump out can also be caused by a piston valve jammed open to the tub." You'll need to remove the pistonm and pump and check the assembly for debris and proper operation and seal, also, check the check valve in the valve body for proper operation. Thanks

Roger, The "piston and nut" assembly is a "spring loaded" mechanical device, it has no solenoids or "electrical" connections. The piston inside the valve body WD22X10025 operates, based on the pressure produced by the wash or drain pump. You didn't mention an issue, but if your having a dishwasher drain issue, the piston and nut is the most common issue, after you check for a restriction in the drain hose or plumbing. Also, the piston assembly must seat and seal to operate properly.

Hello Robert. Make sure the power and water are off. Then disconnect the rear heater support and remove the filter screen assembly from inside the tub. Unscrew the piston and nut WD24X10018 from the collection assembly.
