The Oven Igniter is an OEM replacement part for GE ovens, designed to ignite the bake igniter to start the heating process. This part is responsible for creating the spark that ignites the gas, providing the heat needed to cook and bake food. Over time, the oven igniter can wear out or become damaged, which can prevent the oven from heating.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven not heating up at all.
  • The oven taking longer than normal to heat.
  • Gas smell in the oven due to gas being released without ignition.
  • A clicking sound without the oven igniting.

Causes of a bad igniter can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to excessive heat or moisture, or physical damage from impact or mishandling.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

IMPORTANT: The connector plug may need to be cut off and igniter wires connected to range wires using porcelain wire connectors.

Hello Patrick, The broil ignitor is normally mounted in the same manner as the bake ignitor but in the top of the oven so no parts have to be removed to access it.

Diane, You will want to test the oven safety valve for 3.2-3.6 vac getting to it and if there is not proper voltage then the igniter would be the issue. If there is proper voltage then the oven safety valve will be the issue.

Crystal for Model Number 362.75322003

When using my oven it takes longer to bake than it should. When I preheat oven it comes up to temperature. When I'm baking something, the oven will light burn, a few seconds, then go back out. My husband has checked the temperature and it's at least 10° off when baking, (preheat is within a couple of degrees). It took 5 hours to bake our turkey for Thanksgiving at a temperature of 15° higher than it should have. Broil works fine. My husband thinks this could be the igniter.

Hello Crystal, This can be the ignitor WB13K21 since an increase in heat causes an increase in temperature will cause an increase in resistance. This can be a sign of an electrically stressed ignitor. The only other thing that can cause this is the oven safety valve WB19K36 going into failure.

Hello LeRoy, The model and serial I.D. tag is normally located behind the drawer on the left or right, visible when the drawer is opened. Some older units may have the tag under the main top.

Andy, If the oven igniter is coming on with the unit in the off position make sure that the knob is not cracked and not turning the thermostat off. If this checks ok then the thermostat would be the most likely cause for this issue and is part number WB20K8.

Allen, If your unit is set up on LP gas then make sure that the tank is not low. If it is not or you are natural gas then it sounds like there could be an issue with the regulator of the unit.

Ron, According to the manufacturer the max amp draw on this unit would be 5 amps and uses 120 vac. By having these 2 values and using ohms law it would show that the wattage for the unit would be 600 Watts. The calculation you would use would be voltage x current which amperage.

Mike, here is something you can check, Test for 3.2-3.6 vac at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced.

Martin, yes, the broil and bake igniters are the same part. Test for 3.2-3.6 vac at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter
