For Ge Dryer Rotary Start Switch (Part Number: OEM6128712)

Brian for Model Number DBXR453ET5WW

Hello. While testing my dryer after repairing it, the start switch touched some metal and shorted out. Burning off one of the wires to the start switch. I repaired the wire but the dryer will not start now. I have the correct voltage going to the dryer and the start switch shows continuity when I rotate the knob to the start position. What would keep the dryer from starting? Where does the start switch get its power from? The start switch is burnt but it does show continuity in the start position. Which wire should I check on the start switch for voltage? Thanks.

Hello Brian, You need to check the door switch WE4M415 and the timer, (brown wire). Be aware that if the timer contacts are at fault and no voltage is found on the brown wire, the door switch will not receive any voltage because it get the voltage from this same terminal as does the push-to-start switch. The timer WE4M188 gets its voltage from the red wire.

Hello Patricia, The unit will work normally no matter which wire is put where. In this case, the wire placement does not matter.

Hello Tony, If the unit continues to run at the end of the cycle and the timer just cycles on around, the centrifugal switch in the motor has stuck. This switch is part of the motor so if cleaning the motor up and getting all of the lint out of the switch area doesn't correct the issue, the main drive motor will have to be replaced.

Tony, The likely cause of the unit not shutting off would not be the start switch but would be the timer.

Hello Clark. The dryer motor WE17X10010 is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. It has a switch inside it that is not flipping to continue to run the unit.
