Manufacturer Part Number: WD21X10519

The Flood Switch Assembly is an OEM part for GE dishwashers that is responsible for detecting water levels in the dishwasher's base, preventing potential flooding by shutting off the water intake if an overflow is detected. This helps in avoiding water damage to your home and ensuring the dishwasher operates normally.

Symptoms of a bad Flood Switch Assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water
  • Water not draining properly
  • The dishwasher stops during a cycle

Causes of a bad flood switch assembly can vary from debris accumulation affecting the float's movement to electrical issues within the switch mechanism. Over time, wear and tear on the float or switch can lead to failures.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Barry, Based on the model number supplied to check the flood switch for continuity would be on pins #1 and #7 at the switch, but the heater is not in that circuit. The heater circuit can be check at the board on J702 pins 1 & 2. The heater circuit does have a thermostat that would need to be checked at the thermostat.

David, The flood switch can be tested for continuity. There is a white/red wire and an orange/gray wire that you would put your meter leads to and there should be continuity. If not then the flood switch is faulty and would need to be replaced. When the water is at a certain level the flood switch will open the contacts. There is also 2 aqua/black wires that you can do a resistance test on. The resistance should be approximately 10.45K ohms at 75 degrees.

Zsanett for Model Number GE Dishwasher GDT535

Hi, I have replaced my dishwasher's flood switch [WD21X10519 (AP5781465)] and harness wiring [GE Harness Asm Dc AP6279235 (WD21X21691)] with the noted parts. When I turn it on, it fills with water and then doesn't start. There's a clicking sound that comes from the electrical box under the dishwasher but nothing happens. It just continues clicking. When I push the power button to turn it off, the dishwasher successfully empties and the clicking stops. Please advise.

Zsanett, unfortunately, the model number provided is showing as an incomplete model. If the full model number could be provided in a new inquiry, this will allow for the most accurate information to be presented.

Rory, The float switch is not in the heater circuit so it should not affect the heater. The heater specs are 800 watts, 18O wet, 23.4O dry.

Mark for Model Number GDT635HGJ2WW

Our GE dishwasher stopped working. I removed the WD21X10519 flood switch assbly to clean it (it had stopped once before due to food particles in the float). After cleaning it I reinstalled it but now I am getting the blinking light code that indicates the CSM has tripped (maybe I did not dry out the connector enough?). The instruction sheet tells me how to reset the CSM by putting the unit in the 'service mode' by holding down the 'cycle select' button for 5 seconds, but when I do that nothing is happening. The 'normal' LED is suppsoed to blink. Any suggestions? I can order a new float but I doubt it is really defective.

Mark, with the unit unplugged, if the flood switch tests as having continuity from the white wire with red tracer to the orange wire with the gray tracer, the switch is good. If not, then the switch would need to be replaced. If the switch did test good, it is likely that the main control WD21X24900C has failed based on the information provided.

Jason, look for an orange with grey stripe and a white with a red stripe, these are the colors that go to the flood switch. If they are not in the harness, give us a call and we can try and find the proper harness.
