Don October 08, 2012 for Model Number jgsp28sek2ss We replaced the oven igniter and it works great now. We can still smell propane in oven. We checked for leaks but could find none.
1 Answer Hello Don, The presence of the propane additive odor is normal in a gas unit when the unit is first lit. The gas escapes when the gas valve is opened and it takes several seconds to light. If you have checked for leaks with lightly soaped water, (one teaspoon to a quart of water), and no bubbles were observed, the odor you are experiencing is probably from the normal operation of the ignition system. If you are terribly worried, most utility boards will come out and check for free. Read More...
Don October 02, 2012 for Model Number jgsp28sek2ss Oven igniter glowing, but oven sometimes takes 45 minutes to light, and very slight oder of propane.
1 Answer Hello Don. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Patti September 26, 2012 for Model Number PGS975 Replaced ignitor in oven and broiler. Oven works but broiler doesn't glow and no gas flow occurs.
1 Answer Hello Patti. Test for power coming to the igniter when set to broil. If there is no power there, replace the control. If there is power, and the igniter does not glow, you may have cracked it installing the new igniter. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Steve H. September 24, 2011 for Model Number GE#JGSP28BEK2BB Should the hot surface ignitor remain glowing after the burner is lit? it appears that the HSI glows as long as there is a call for burner heat. This happens to the broiler also ,which is a a separate burner/HSI. The amp draw for tha HSI is 3.6-3.8amps @128VAC. can this be correct, or is the module/gas valve bad?
1 Answer Hi Steve. Yes, the Hot Surface indicator should stay on while the burner is lit. The gas valve amperage is correct as the burner is working and gas is flowing properly.Your valve is OK. Thank you. Read More...
Alan June 27, 2011 for Model Number jgsp28sek2ss What causes oven not to heat but broiler works. Oven igniter glows bout no gas flow
1 Answer Hello Alan, your bake oven ignitor WB13T10045 has to draw enough amps to open the gas valve. The ignitor has to glow bright red almost white for proper ignition. You might have to verify the igniter is still working properly, if not replace. Thanks! Read More...
