The Timer is an OEM replacement part for GE washers. The timer controls most of the operations of the washer: water level, tub filling and emptying, length of cycles, and cycle setting sequences.

Causes may involve minor power surges exposing delicate components to uncontrolled fluctuations overtime. General wear from years of activating various thermal, agitation and spin functions can degrade sensitive electronics as well.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • Erratic or inaccurate countdown between cycles
  • Failure to switch automatically between rinse and spin
  • Locked buttons or controls suggesting circuit board issues
  • Inability to modify or set desired cycles and options

This GE OEM replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore model washing machines.

Jose, the timer part number WH12X10338 does not have any cross references or replacements listed. This timer is compatible with several different General Electric washers. We'll need your appliance model number to verify if this timer will work on your appliance. Thanks.

Mike for Model Number WLSR2000G2WW Ge Washer

I was unable to select a cycle for the washer to work using the knob. I picked up a new knob, and it works better. The problem is that I know that the plastic part that the knob engages, isn't engaging very well. I don't know what part I need to get. The Once the washer is going, it usually works ok. BUT, it will get stuck on the white cycle from time to time. Do I need a new timer? Does the timer come with the white teeth that engage the teeth on the knob? Sorry if the questions are elementary. Thanks in advance.

Hello Bill, I'm sure we can help you but we need you to re-post with the model number off of the washers' I.D. tag. This way we can supply you with the correct part number.

Jimbo for Model Number 1992 year GE Washing Machine

Washer works great, but the knob to select different cycles kept getting stuck... finally, it got so stuck I think it is "stripped". This is the kind of knob where you push it in and turn to select a cycle.. and pull it out to start it when you get it on a cycle you want. I have put WD40 in the gears and it turns "easier" but the thing is already stripped.. and basically won't turn. Everything else is good to go. What can I get to turn it now?

Hello Jimbo, You may want to check the timer knob to see if the plastic grips are stripped on it before replacing the timer.

Hello Tamar, The silver shaft that goes into the timer that the knob sits on should not come out. If it is coming out then you would need a new timer. The timer knob should have a clip on it that holds it onto the timer shaft.

Hello Bill, The compression ring goes around the part of the timer knob that slips onto the timer. This part is basically a reinforcement for the plastic part of the knob, to make it strong enough to withstand the force that is applied when turning the timer mechanism. You should look closely at the geared mechanism on the front of the timer. If the timer is binding, the geared mechanism will begin to strip. When this occurs, if the timer knob is replaced it will destroy the new knob in a very short time.

Hello Bob. If you can manually advance the timer on the washer and it works, but does not on it's own, you will need to replace the timer WH12X10338.
