The Timer is an OEM replacement part for GE washers. The timer controls most of the operations of the washer: water level, tub filling and emptying, length of cycles, and cycle setting sequences.

Causes may involve minor power surges exposing delicate components to uncontrolled fluctuations overtime. General wear from years of activating various thermal, agitation and spin functions can degrade sensitive electronics as well.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • Erratic or inaccurate countdown between cycles
  • Failure to switch automatically between rinse and spin
  • Locked buttons or controls suggesting circuit board issues
  • Inability to modify or set desired cycles and options

This GE OEM replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore model washing machines.

Toni, How did you stop the water from coming into the machine ? If you had to turn the water faucets off, that would indicate a bad water inlet valve WH13X10026 . If you had to unplug the power cord to stop the water, that would indicate a bad water level switch WH12X10065 or bad air dome hose WH41X365. There is a very slight chance the problem, may be in the timer, but very slight. You may want to remove the timer knob and dial, and apply some lubricant to the timer shaft, allow it to flow down the shaft and into the timer body, and pull and push on the shaft a few times, to "loosen" up the assembly, and make it operate more normally. Good Luck.

Hello Ann. You will need to remove the clip holding the timer knob onto the timer. Then remove the screws holding the control panel in place to access the timer. Then you will need to unplug the wires going to the timer and remove the old timer. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.
