The Drain Pump and Motor is an original LG (OEM) replacement part for LG made washing machines that is responsible for removing water from the washer at the end of the wash cycle. The pump forces water out through the drain hose so that clothing comes out free of excess water, making the drying process faster.

Symptoms of a failing Drain Pump Motor include:

  • Water not draining out of the washing machine
  • Noisy or unusual sounds coming from the pump area during the drain cycle
  • The washing machine stopping mid-cycle

Causes of a bad Drain Pump Motor can range from obstructions in the pump or hose, which can strain or damage the motor, to wear and tear from regular use leading to motor failure. Electrical issues can also affect the motor's performance, preventing it from operating correctly.

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Hello Norman, If you look at the first picture of 4681EA2001T on our site, the release is located just above the left top corner of the white motor cover. Pressing on it while turning the pump will allow the pumps' rotation for removal.

Hello Lanse, It does not matter which wire goes to which terminal on an ac electric motor. It will still operate the same and spin in the same direction. You will need to order 280187 for your model and not the one you were viewing.

Rkrawick, This unit is designed to spin really fast on the spin cycle. This will get up to speeds of between 1100 and 1200 RPM's.

Karen, If the unit is pumping the water out properly you would not need to replace the pump. Check the pressure hose to make sure that it is not clogged with debris. Also, check the pressure switch to make sure that the pressure switch is resetting to empty as this has to happen in order for the unit to spin.

Jennifer, If the pump is moving water, check to make sure that the pump is not clogged. If it is not and is getting 120 vac then the pump would need to be replaced.

Jim for Model Number WM2077CW

I watched your tutorial on how to replace the drain pump on a LG front load washing machine. The how to information was very very helpful. The video made the job so much easier. I noticed on the video the black wire to the pump was on the L post and the brown on the N post. I marked the pump housing with the wire color location before I took them off and noticed the wires are reversed with the black on the N and the brown on the L. This is the original pump. Has there been a change for the wire hook up? Should I place the black on the L and brown on the N? Thanks Jim

Peter, If the unit is not draining then you will want to check to make sure that the pump is getting power to it. If it does have power then the pump will be the issue. If there is no power and not draining then the control board will be the issue. If the unit is draining but getting the error then the pressure switch will be the most likely cause.
