The Freezer Defrost Heater is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It plays a crucial role in the defrost system by melting any frost or ice buildup on the evaporator coils. This helps maintain the efficiency of the cooling system and ensures the freezer operates properly.

Over time, the defrost heater can wear out or fail due to continuous heating and cooling cycles, electrical issues, or physical damage. Causes of a bad defrost heater include burnouts, electrical faults, and accumulation of frost that hinders its functionality.

Symptoms of a bad freezer defrost heater include:

  • Excessive frost buildup in the freezer
  • The freezer not maintaining the set temperature
  • The refrigerator running continuously or cycling more frequently
  • Water leaks inside the freezer from melting ice

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Freezer Defrost Heater (Part Number: OEM18860031)

Marcy for Model Number LMX28988

Our French Door refrigerator has 2 freezer door/drawers. Frost continually built up. We continually cleared the frost, however that led to the drawers not opening/closing well. We figured we needed new rails for the drawers. We tried to find a local service person to assist us but were unsuccessful. Now both drawers are non-functional but leak water on the floor periodically. My husband is tired of dealing with it and prepared to purchase a new fridge. Also, the ice maker gave out before the bottom freezer drawers. We decided it was less expensive to purchase or make ice. We have no place to do either now.

Marcy, For the upper and lower left rail you will need part number MGT61844104 and for the right upper and lower rail, you will need part number MGT61844103. If you need the icemaker then you would need part number AEQ73110205. For the ice build-up, you will need to check the door seals but the rails would most likely correct the issue.

Laurie, the issue may lie in the defrost fuse/sensor assembly 6615JB2005H or the heater 5300JK1005K. The fuse can be tested for continuity and should show continuity if it is working properly. The defrost heater can be tested for continuity to check if it has an open circuit. If the heater does not show continuity, then it would need to be replaced.

Brian, To replace this heater sheath 5300JK1005K you will need to pull the drawer and shelving out of the freezer compartment. The rails should have clips at the back that you would push in on to release the rail. Once all the shelves are removed from the freezer you will remove the rear wall in the freezer. The next part is a little tricky because you will need to pull the evaporator out enough to remove the heater. When pulling the evaporator out you will want to make sure that you do not kink the tubing that is coming out of the rear wall going to the evaporator.

Jeff, The ER DH would be a defrost heater failure. You will want to test the defrost heater to make sure that it is good and if it checks ok then the issue will be with the control board.

Hello Pat. It should be around 35 ohms. The best test is continuity. It should read closed if good.

Sean, The heater sheath would be located in the freezer compartment and you would have to remove the drawers and rear wall of the freezer compartment. This will be located on the bottom of the evaporator coils.

Hello WC. The screws are usually behind covers. If there is none, then the back wall should unsnap from the unit. We can not get much info on Kenmore models. Sorry.

Chris, The most common reason for the ER Dh error on your type of refrigerator would be the defrost sensor 6615JB2005H. You would want to test the heater but would most likely be good.

Tom, If you are getting 37 ohms on the heater then it is good. The defrost sensor is the most likely cause for the unit not working properly. The part number for the defrost sensor is 6615JB2005H.

Hello Tom, This unit does not have a condensate pan heater. The unit uses the condenser fan and heat from the condenser and compressor to evaporate the water after the defrost cycle. On the lighting issue I would test the light switch 6600JB3007A to see if it is working properly. If it is the freezer light switch 6600JB1010A. Using a multi-meter you would go across the leads to check to make sure you have continuity when open. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
