For Samsung Microwave High Voltage Diode (Part Number: OEM12710103)

Yas for Model Number SMH1816W/XAA-0000

I plug the microwave (Samsung SMH1816W/XAA-0000), display is good, after 4-5 seconds the house breaker resets. When I plug in again, it works same as before. It means works for 4-5 seconds and then breaker resents. I also smell a very light smoke. I opened the case, the fuses are fine and there is no loosen wire. I checked the thermostats, one has continuity (the one that is closer to the right side) and the one that is behind the first one has no continuity. I read that the second thermostat should be discontinued (if I am correct). Do you think the problem could be from the control board? And, have any idea what the part number is?

1 Answer

Yas, With the unit tripping the breaker after being plugged in for 4 to 5 seconds then the issue will be caused by a faulty control board.

Steve, With this issue it will be one of a couple different things that could cause this. The first would be a bad noise filter assembly, the second would be a bad wall outlet or wiring and the 3rd would be a faulty breaker. You will want to check these things to make sure that they are good.

Dave, You will want to check the fuse that is located on the filter assembly to see if it is blown. If it is then the likelihood of what is wrong would be that one of the door switches would be defective.

Hello Pat. Look for any loose wiring connections in the unit. If none are found, you will need to order and replace the control board on the unit.

Hello JB. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron.

Tom for Model Number SMH1713S/XAA-0001

Hello. One year and 3 month old Samsung Microwave. Very simple and repeatable symptom: turn the microwave on level 10 for 30 seconds it makes a horrible buzzing noise the whole time. Turn the microwave on level 5 for 30 seconds and it buzzes horribly for about 20 seconds and then gets nice and quiet - operating correctly. As you reduce the heating level, the length of time of the buzzing noise gets shorter. Food heats just fine in all settings...it's just a terrible noise. People have suggested the magnetron or the diode or the transformer. Which one do the Appliance Parts Pros say it is? Thanks, Tom

1 Answer

Tom, The most likely cause for this issue would be a diode but would be a good idea to replace the capacitor and diode at the same time as the capacitor may be having some bleed through which would damage the diode if this is the case.

Fred, The fuse comes as part of the noise filter assembly which is part number DE96-00400B. As for the diode, if it was failing it could make a buzzing noise which is not uncommon.

Abry, You will want to pull the unit down and check the cavity thermostats to make sure that they have continuity. If not then they would need to be replaced. If they do then you will want to replace the control board on the unit. The thermostats are more likely.

Jack for Model Number 40185042010

Microwave heats, clock counts down correctly and unit runs for the correct amount of time. When not in use, the display will show random messages and beep periodically. The stop button can be pressed to allow a new cook time to be entered and the unit will cook normally. Every so often the key pad will stop working all together. Un plugging and plugging the machine back in will allow the key pad to work again. Perhaps a power surge has damaged an electrical part? Any ideas on which part? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Jack, This sounds like either a bad connection between the control and the touchpad or the programming in the EEPROM on the control board DE94-02302B is corrupted. I'm sorry but this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. You can contact www.corecentricsolutions.com to see if they support the control board for repair.
