Questions & Answers

For Samsung Ice Maker Assembly (Module) (Part Number: OEM18988140)

1 Answer

Darin, You will need to make sure there is no ice built up around the fan in the auger assembly. This would prevent the ice maker area from cooling cold enough to cycle the ice maker.

Rosanna, There is no seal inside the ice bin that will keep air from migrating in. The ice door, if it is not closing all the way would cause this type of issue. Also, check the seal on the door where it would meet the ice bin for being damaged.

KC, the ice maker DA97-18859A is the most up to date version of this ice maker, however, it alone would not prevent the frost build-up issue. The ice build-up is caused by an air leak that is commonly found in the seam between the ice cabin and the wall of the refrigerator. This air leak can be sealed with the food-grade RTV sealant DA81-05595A and the clip assembly DA82-02367A would be used to assist in defrosting the airflow channel.

Jim L for Model Number RF23HCEDBWW/AA-0000

I'm having recurring ice maker problems. On a regular basis, a large chunk of ice forms at the top of ice maker (comprised of ice cubes and run-off water). This blocks/stops the unit from making any new ice. We do not see the problem until the ice bin is empty. The remedy is to chip out the big chunk of ice at the top, chip off the ice that's formed on the bottom/rear of the ice maker (PN DA97-13718A) and then reset the unit. This works and the unit resumes making ice until it jams again (2 -3 weeks). Is replacing the ice maker assembly a reasonable start to a permanent repair? Thanks!

1 Answer

Jim, This issue sounds like it would be that the unit is putting too much water into the icemaker and would most likely be a issue with the water valve trickling. If this is the case then the water valve would need replaced.
