The Washer Door Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly is crucial for securing the washer door during operation, ensuring that the door remains closed and locked while the machine is in use. This helps prevent water leaks and ensures that the wash cycle completes safely and effectively.

You should replace the door latch assembly if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad door latch assembly can include wear and tear over time, mechanical failure, or accidental damage from forcefully closing the door. A malfunctioning latch can prevent the washer from starting or cause it to stop mid-cycle.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The washer door not locking or staying closed
  • The washer not starting or pausing mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to door lock issues displayed on the control panel
  • Water leakage around the door area during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: Washer door latch, gray w/switches and ind. Light

For Whirlpool Washer Door Latch Assembly (Part Number: OEM18019122)

Erik for Model Number MAH5500BWW

Hello, I am trying to avoid buying a new appliance because I believe that the repairs neccesary offset the cost of a new appliance. I have a MAH5500BWW, and recently it started malfunction on the spin cycle; it would begin the spin cycle countdown, but then as time elapsed, the count would go from four minutes remaining back to 12, and leaving the contents soaking wet. After taking the console apart I found the factory trouble shooting document. I then proceeded to remove the front panel, and found the belt laying inside the body off both pulley and motor. I have since ordered a replacement from you, however in dire need of fresh laundry, I thought that I would try to squeeze another wash off of the worn old belt. My new problem is that now the door does not fully shut, and despite the door lock solenoid sounding like it has activated, the door still will pop open. I have only received the LO error, indicating the door locked, but the door is easily opened. Will the latch assembly be the solution to this issue? Thank you!

Hello Erik. You need to check for a loose inner basket. If so, the bearings are bad. That would also mean the inner basket needs to be replaced and is the reason for all your problems.

Greg, the door latch is part number WP22003593. You will need to remove the loading door, front panel, dispenser trim and door from the top, then raise the top of the washer, to access the locking assembly. Thanks.

Greg, The door latch assembly for your model and serial number is part number WP22003593. To access the door latch to replace it you will need to remove the door and hinges from the cabinet. There will be 4 more screws on the opposite side that you will also need to remove. Once these are removed you will twist the top of the front panel on each side to remove the front panel. Once the front panel is removed there are 2 screws that are 5/16" hex head (one on each side) that you will need to remove and remove the bracket that they hold in place. Remove the screws holding the dispenser assembly in place and lift the main top. The latch assembly is accessible at this point.

Pureheart for Model Number mah5500bww

I have an 2005 maytag washer, model# mah5500bww-- serial # is A981316sep it recently stopped working and only the touch pad light would come on at certain places. I wasn't able to put it in service mode to check if it was cycling properly nothing would work, I had a service tech come take a look at it and as soon as he opened the door he closed it and said , (its a maytag neptune) this is the washer that put maytag out of business. He didn't check anything for electrical shorts or nothing , maybe 5 minutes. He told me I need to replace the door latch kit and the control board. I ordered the parts from appliance parts pro and installed them and the washer is still doing the exact same thing. After I replaced the control board in about 10 minutes the lights went off and I unpluged it and now I'm telling you my sad story, I would appreciate any help or suggestions u could give me for I'm at the end of my rope PS I hate to discard the maching it cost a lot of money but I can't keep throwing money at it Thanks Pureheart

Pureheart, With the console only having a few lights that light up and the control being non responsive then the issue would be a bad console 22003238.
