The Worm Gear is an OEM part for Whirlpool stand mixers. It is integral to the mixer's drive system, facilitating the transfer of power from the motor to the mixing attachment. This gear is specifically designed to handle varying levels of resistance from different ingredients, ensuring that your mixer maintains consistent performance and speed.

Symptoms of a failing Worm Gear include:

  • The mixer not operating at its set speed
  • A grinding or whirring sound during use
  •  The mixer head not turning despite the motor running
  • Inconsistent mixing or the inability to mix stiff doughs

Causes of a bad worm gear often involve strain from mixing heavy loads, which can wear down the teeth of the gear, or lubrication issues that increase friction and heat within the gear assembly.

This OEM part is also compatible with KitchenAid and certain Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Worm Gear (Part Number: OEM18041364)

Don for Model Number KP26M1XPM

I purchased all the gears for this Kitchenaid pro 600 mixer a week or so ago. The worm gear follower was stripped and the main gear was also. I changed them as well as the bevel gear and put new grease in. It's a pretty easy repair and everything fit together well. WHen I turned the mixer on again there was a farily loud knocking noise. took it apart again and was able to spin the motor by hand and everything turns smoothly. when I turn the power on to the motor I could see that the worm gear was jumping off the drive gear on the motor. There seems to be a lot of play that the whole worm gear can move in it's cradle. With the motor running (I was very careful) I could make the knocking stop by shifting the worm gear a little in its cradle by moving the front and rear bearings. I have ordered replacement front and rear bearings but the ones there look perfect with no signs of damage. Any ideas???

Hello Don. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the bearings are bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. If there is enough play to shift the bearings, they are bad.

Hello Eric. If the gears do not match, you will need to replace the gear WP9709231. There is no notes from the manufacture of the gears not matching, but it should just need this one gear. Hope this helps.

Hi Eric. There is a mixer model # KP2671-3 that uses the motor part # WPW10247536. It will give a picture of the motor and end/shaft gear. Does this one pertain to your unit. I know you gave us the model # KP2671XNV. If this does not work, then all we can do is to get it researched for you. This is the closest model # to yours. Thank You.

Jd for Model Number KT2651

Yes, the old motor gear, and crown gears were cleaned and re-lubricated with the installation of the new gear. We confirmed the old gear is 51 tooth and the new is 60. Ordered a new motor. The old motor is 8 t, while the new motor has a 10 t gear and works smoothly (quietly) with the new gear. The issue, the old 51t gear is not available, and the replacement gear is not compatible with the old motor. Solution, if replacing this gear, verify that you have a 60 t gear, if not, order a new motor.

Jd G. for Model Number WHIRLPOOL KT2651 (Kitchen Aid 6qt Professional Mixer)

For our mixer, this gear striped a couple of teeth on gear (AP3854320)... Though it still ran/runs quietly, the mixer would "stick" and need a nudge to continue mixing...while installing the new gear, I noticed that the engagement to the motor drive gear is not smooth, it is a a bit stiff with noticeable interference as the gears are rotated by turning the motor by hand (clunky?). The worm gear engagement is very smooth. After replacing the gear cover and running the mixer, the gear noise is unbearable. The currently available gear is an "upgrade"... has Whirlpool changed the pitch on the gear? Can this be corrected by replacing the motor with (which is the only way to change the drive gear)?

Hello JD. Did you check and clean the gear shaft? Are you positive this is a gear noise and not a motor hum or chatter? Thanks!
