Hello Sandy. Spin Bearing Replacement 1. Disconnect power supply to unit. 2. Press the Spin Bearing out of the cavity from the opposite side of the housing. 3. When installing the replacement bearing into the housing cavity, be sure to press against the outer race of the bearing to avoid damage to the bearing shield and causing premature failure.

Hello Roman. The first thing to check would be the thrust bearing 12002213 on the unit. If it is good, then the transmission is bad and will need to be replaced if the motor is running during the spin cycle. If the motor does not run, check the lid switch in the unit.

Dee, Before you replace the transmission, check the drive pulley and thrust bearing assembly 12002213. If or when the assembly gets distorted or damaged, and depending on how bad, there will be quite a bit of noise from the drive system and intermittent operation of the agitate and spin modes.

Matt F for Model Number Maytag MAV408DAWW

Maytag washer recently started to not spin during the spin cycle. I noticed that the tub would move clockwise/counterclockwise easily but I could turn clockwise a little further and it would get some tension from somewhere and start to spin during the spin cycle. The washer has gotten progressively louder during the past two weeks. As preventative maintenance and from suggestion on here I replaced the Thrust bearing, snubber ring, belt and tub springs. I thought I had the issue fixed after that repair but the loud noise has come back again as of last night and again the tub would spin clockwise/counterclockwise until I rotated clockwise into the "locking" position. What part might you suggest I replace in order to remedy this issue? Would I be able to get the seal nut off without the specialized tools?

1 Answer

Matt, You will want to check the pump assembly to make sure that the pulley on the pump is spinning freely with no resistance. The other thing would be the tub bearing being bad and needing to be replaced. The seal nut can be taken off using a pipe wrench to grab ahold of it and turn it off. The part number that you would need is W10219156.

Kkd, If you have removed the 3 screws holding the bearing assembly in place and it will not move then you may need to carefully tap it off.

Edward, In order to replace the lower bearing you would need to remove the thrust bearing and the brake assembly from the unit. To do this it required a special tool. The tool has been discontinued but what you could do is take one of the screws out and match up the threading. Make sure that screws that you get, which you would need 2 of, are about 1 1/2 inches long. Put one screw where you took the other out but do not tighten all the way and then one across from it. These will be used for releasing the tension and putting the brake assembly back on.

Hello John! Unfortunately the spanner wrench for this model number is not available. You can try finding a big enough pipe wrench to go around the nut and tap it off. I've sent you a copy of the service manual for reference on how to remove and install the part. Thanks!

Mike, You need to remove the transmission pulley and check the thrust bearing cams washers and bearings for excessive wear or deformations and discoloring on all the parts. We're Pretty sure you'll need to replace the thrust bearing kit 12002213 once you investigate.
