Bob, With a loud grinding noise you will first want to check the drain pump to make sure that it is not turning hard and that the bearings are not coming out of it. If this checks ok then you will want to replace the tub bearing W10219156.

Mark for Model Number MAV408DAWW

I have received the lower bearing, part AP4008541, for my MAV408DAWW Maytag washer. This is after changing out the thrust bearing kit and not solving the problem. I've now tore down the washer and find that this lower bearing is press fit on the transmission shaft. Is there a procedure that a home owner can follow to remove this bearing? I've wracked at it and busted the plastic housing already. The only thing I'm thinking is that I would have to find a machine shop with a press, but I don't know how they would be able to work around the transmission housing.

Hello Mark. You need to remove the transmission from the outer tub to install the bearing. It installs from the bottom of the tub, not on the inside.

Bruce, It's most likely something else, like the thrust bearing assembly 12002213 if the cam or bearing is worn or distorted, and out of tolerance, the brake rotor will remain partially engaged and make a squeak noise in the agitate cycle. Also check the belt WP22003483 for a worn or burnt spot, and the motor pulley for the same as well.

Hello Sergio, The pump WP35-6780 requires no spanner wrench to replace. I believe a 5/16 inch socket and a 3/8 inch socket are needed in addition to the 5/16 for the drain hose clamp removals. Some of these may require a pair of pliers to remove the drain hoses from the pump, but I can't remember but a few that has the pinch type clamps on them. Most have the automotive style hose clamps on them which are much easier to work with. Be sure to unplug the unit before beginning!

Hello Sergio, Most of the time when a complaint of the washer making a clicking during the units' operation, there is either a foreign object in the pump WP35-6780 or the bearing in the pump has failed. There is a slight possibility of a nail or similar item in one of the holes in the inner tub that is rubbing on the inside of the outer tub, but this is remote. Most of the time, the pump replacement will cure the issue.

Hi Richard. This can be a few different issues. First remove the power. Then lift the top. Unclasp the top tub ring and use a flashlight to see if there is any balled up clothes stopping the unit from spin. If not then with the top lifted, remove the front panel. Then you lift the unit and support the tilted cabinet. Then rotate the lower pulley one way it will turn and allow the spin. In another direction it will use the clutch pulley to unlock the brake rotor part # WP35-6714 to allow it to spin. If you notice the inside of the washer from all below the middle of the basket down has all dirty brown throw off it is a sign that the upper spin bearing under the tub /seal assy. has failed. It is part # W10219156. If there is no other tell tale sign, listen to the lower spin bearing for failure part # 12001562. Remove the belt. advance the timer to spin in any/all cycles and see if the timer and motor responds in all commands. If the belt part # WP21352320 has broken , find out why it failed along w/if something got stuck int he pump part # WP35-6780. Let us know what you find so we can supply you with more correct part #'s. Thank You.

Hi Brian. You might have a leak at the lower tub, by the spin bearing assembly. The tub seal/ bearing assembly is a 2-part kit. The tub seal assembly is W10219156. The bearing assembly is part # W10219156. When you un hook the belt , the tub should turn freely in one direction from turning the bottom clutch pulley. Thank- you.
