This replacement part is an electronic control board. It is manufactured by Whirlpool and is responsible for monitoring and controlling the functions in a refrigerator. It ensures that the compressor turns on at the appropriate time, handles freezer defrosting, and much more. It can be damaged by exposure to moisture and extreme temperatures. If the control board has failed, the refrigerator most likely will not operate at all. In some cases, users may notice intermittent operation, but the board should still be replaced as soon as possible. To replace the board, first unplug the refrigerator. Always wear gloves when servicing the refrigerator. This is a genuine OEM part and it is sold individually. It fits Whirlpool, Kenmore, Amana, and Roper branded refrigerators.

Hello Omar, Whirlpool Model Numbers starting with EC or GC have an alarm that beeps. To correct the issue, Press and release the freezer door switch. If this restores operation, add a plastic shim block, WP2177331 to the freezer liner where it contacts the light switch. This will increase the travel of the light switch actuator. Confirm that the freezer light bulbs are off when the door is closed.

My refrigerator is making a pinging sound frequently it seems to run more than usual with a normal loud cooling fan noise. The unit seems to be working properly other than the noise. I think it's a noise like it's working hard to cool the refrigerator. No clicking noises. The pinging is annoying though. I suspect it needs a new control board, but not sure. The refrigerator is like 10 years old and has worked great forever. I've never changed a filter or cleaned anything on it - although on the bottom of the unit it does look dusty. Not sure what to do to try to fix myself, or how to even clean. If I get a new control board, does that go in the panel inside of the refrigerator itself (where the blue lights are)? Do I need to get to the back of the unit to look at it (which is hard for me to do since it's against a wall now)? Whenever the filter percentage gets low I just reset it. Have never replaced the filter.

Hello James, You should unplug the refrigerator and pull it out from the wall and open the rear compartment at the bottom. Save the cover to reinstall after cleaning/servicing since this directs air flow. Remove the grille from the front bottom to access the coils. Use a vacuum cleaner with a crevasse tool to clear all lint and dust from the coils from under the front and rear of the unit. The filter is located in the front base of the unit behind the grille. Plug the unit back in while out and listen for any unusual noises. If further assistance is needed, please feel free to post another question.

My KitchenAid KSCS25FVMS03 ice maker quit working recently. I replaced the control valve and the icemaker immediately filled with water, but now it's not dispensing the finished ice into the bucket. I'm trying to determine whether I need to replace the ice maker sensor, the whole ice maker unit, or the control board. Is there a way to trigger the ejector mechanism to verify that the mechanical part still works? FYI, up until this issue appeared (shortly after the last time I changed the filter), the ice maker worked fine, generally. Water pressure appears to be fine. Consistent temp in freezer compartment measured at 0F after cleaning the coils (previously showing about 10F). Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

My refrigerator reaches set temperatures of 0 degrees freezer and 37 degrees refrigerator. The evaporator fan is running continuously and the coil frost pattern is consistent, light frost top to bottom. The problem is after reaching normal set temperatures, the evaporator fan cycles on and off accompanied by a chirping sound. The compressor continues to run while the evaporator fan cycles. Also the compressor faults out after around 24-48 Hrs and I have to unplug the refrigerator for 10 minutes to reset the refrigerator. Once I restore power, the compressor comes back on and begins to cool until the cycle repeats itself. Thank you

1 Answer

LJL, Yes, with the condenser fan cycling on and off with the compressor still running would be caused by a faulty main control board.

DCO, Get a putty knife between the housing and the liner of the unit and it should pop down. There should be 4 screws that need to be removed under the light shield, which may hold in the light assembly but will need to be removed.

Dean for Model Number KSCS25FTMS02

I have a KitchenAid Refrigerator (model # KSCS25FTMS02). About a month ago the fridge started making a pinging noise and the temperature of the fridge was rising (not holding its set temperature). Upon reading about its condition, I had its main control board rebuilt (new capacitors & new relays installed). Upon installing this rebuilt control board, the pinging noise went away and the fridge ran perfectly, but for only around 10 day. After 10 days the fridges ice maker quit working & the temperature in the fridge started to rise. I then unplugged the fridge for 2 days and then plugged it back in. Once again, the fridge ran perfectly for around 10 days & then its ice maker quit working & as before, the fridges temperature started to rise. Please help me in getting this fridge to operate for longer than 10 days. Thank you.

Dean, Based on the issue with the unit it sounds like you are having a defrost issue. You will want to test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat to make sure that they have continuity. If there is continuity on the parts then the control board defrost circuit has failed and would need a new board.
