This replacement part is an electronic control board. It is manufactured by Whirlpool and is responsible for monitoring and controlling the functions in a refrigerator. It ensures that the compressor turns on at the appropriate time, handles freezer defrosting, and much more. It can be damaged by exposure to moisture and extreme temperatures. If the control board has failed, the refrigerator most likely will not operate at all. In some cases, users may notice intermittent operation, but the board should still be replaced as soon as possible. To replace the board, first unplug the refrigerator. Always wear gloves when servicing the refrigerator. This is a genuine OEM part and it is sold individually. It fits Whirlpool, Kenmore, Amana, and Roper branded refrigerators.

Ken, You would just need to get a flat blade between the housing and the cabinet and pry down on it. There would be clips holding it in place.

I ordered the refrigerator control part. 2307027 for a KSC23BL00 FYI there are three clips in the back of the white housing. They help hold the light cover, but you also have to inset a flat head screwdriver in each to free the back of the housing to get to the control board. My problem is that after I connect the control board, the percent of water filtration comes on (88%) and the holiday light glows, but then they go out and the unit remains dark. No other lights come on. I have tried reconnecting and making sure all the connections are tight, but same results. The indicator lines on the plastic ribbon connectors seem to be lined up. I am not sure what else to try. Thanks

Rgripper, Try to reset the water filter indicator and turn off the holiday setting. If this does not correct the issue then you may have received a faulty control board.

Craig, From what it appears, you would pull down on the control panel of the unit. This appears to have 2 knobs at the back that keep it from falling down but the front should just pull straight down or get a flat blade between the trim and the panel and kinda pry down.

I received this used fridge and had it installed in my home last week. It was working just fine previously. Once it was in my house, I noticed that when I opened either the freezer door or the fridge door, the light would not come on. It was cold inside however. I shut the door, then re opened it (did this a few times) and then the light would come back on (both sides). Is this an issue with the control board? I find it odd that it had been working fine before and then it's moved into my house and now it's not.

Marisa, You will want to check the light switches on the unit to see if they are making good contact. If the switches check ok then the control board would be the issue. Also make sure that the bulbs are in all the way.

Holly K for Model Number Whirlpool gold model gc5nhaxvs01

Hello, The freezer side of the fridge stops working every few weeks. I pull it away from the wall, unplug for 1-2 minutes and plug it in and it starts working again. The fridge part is fine and keeps a perfect temp. I have vacuumed the condenser coils with no resolution to the problem. I was told over the phone the only way to diagnose is to call when it happens and they felt 90% it was the electronic control board needed replacing but would know for sure once they came during the problem only to confirm. They said the control board no longer available and would need to be "rebuilt" taking 10 days if it was the problem. Can you give me advice if you feel this is what is wrong. The fridge is only 5 years old. Thank you.

Hello Holly. Based on the information you provided, it does sound like the board is the issue and it will need to be rebuilt on the unit.

Greg, Yes the issue could be the I R dispenser control boards W11629974, the test/diagnosis is relatively easy. Open the freezer door, observe the red LED light on the right side of the freezer wall. If the LED light flashes twice then pauses and repeats, this indicates the flapper on the left side wall is blocking the IR beam, or the optics are faulty. Press in on the flapper on the left side of the wall, if the LED light continues to flash twice and pause and repeats, then the optics boards will need to be replaced. If the LED remains on solid after the flapper is pressed in then you'll need to check or replace the ice maker.
