The Control Board is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It controls and regulates the dryer's various functions and cycles. The control board receives input from sensors and user controls, processes this information, and sends signals to different components such as the motor, heater, and drum to execute the desired drying operations.

Causes of a bad Control Board can include power surges, electrical shorts, or simply wear and tear over time.

Symptoms of a bad Control Board include:

  • The dryer not turning on or responding to user input
  • Erratic behavior or error codes displayed on the control panel
  • Individual components like the motor or heater not functioning properly
  • Unexplained shut-offs or resets during the drying cycle

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Bk for Model Number mede300vw0

The dryer shows no power, no console lights or codes and drum light not lighting. We replaced thermal fuse already. Performed continuity test from the plug to the terminal block and from the terminal block to the control board. Continuity tests point to either the console control board: AP6018634 or the machine control board: AP6016286 but can not determine which board. If we have no power to see error codes is there any other way to test which board is needed here?

BK, The light draws its power from the outlet. Make sure you have voltage present at the outlet.

Julia, The heater relay on the machine control board supplies L1 voltage (120 VAC) to the heater element, through the thermal cut out and the high limit thermostat, L2 voltage is supplied to the element through the motor switch. The inlet and outlet thermistors are the components that control the temperature (we would expect an error code if that were the case). Based on your post information, you may want to recheck the exhaust vent pipe and vent hood for clogs and collapse, kinks, etc. then check the blower wheel and housing to make sure there are no obstructions blocking the airflow.

Recently my dryer would power up, but not start. I replaced the Thermal Fuse, and that restored function. However, the dryer now gets too hot. Temperature will not modulate on any cycle mode selected, ever air only. I suspect this is what caused the Thermal Fuse to activate. Would this be caused by loose connections at the Control Board, or a failed Control Board? Could it also be a shorted Heating Element? Please advise regarding the most likely cause for excessive/uncontrolled heat, and verify the correct part number(s) to order. Thanks for your help!

Hello Jim, you will need to check if the heating element has grounded in the heater case if it is ok then that would indicate a stuck heater relay on the main control board. The heater is part WP8544771, the control board is part WPW10174745.

Chris, This control board would be for several models and next to the connectors will be where the connectors would attach to the board. The 2 connectors may not be necessary for your unit.

Mark, This F70 code is a communication error between the boards. Check the wiring that goes between the 2 and if there are any loose connections then they need repaired otherwise will likely be a bad control board.

Kelly for Model Number WED9400SW2

My dryer blew thermal fuse. Replaced it and blew again. Replaced it,thermistor, high limit thermostat and fuse(both came as kit). Dryer will start but when put on air dry the element comes on. I checked element with meter and it has continuity. I don't want to leave it running too long as not to blow another fuse. Do you have any ideas? I hope its not the control board but that would be better than buying a new dryer. Thank you for any help you can give me.

1 Answer

Hello Kelly. If the element is not grounded, the board is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.
