Gary June 01, 2014 for Model Number MDZ2766GEQ I have model GDZ2766GEQ and the evaporator coil keeps icing up solid from top to bottom. I pull the back panel off the freezer and defrost and it will work fine for a month or so in the summer months. Through the winter I have no problems at all but as soon as the weather gets warmer it will start doing it again. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Gary, You need to test the defrost thermostat WP61006199 for continuity with your ohm meter. If it is open when it is cold enough, (operating temperature), it has failed and will require replacement. If it tests good, the adaptive defrost control 61005988 will be the issue. Read More...
Tony B. May 07, 2014 for Model Number 106.57562791 Not every time, but when my refrigerator goes into defrost, it stays in that mode and starts melting stuff in the freezer. If I turn the thermostat off and back on or sometimes just touch the knob the refrigerator comes back on. Also, if I turn the thermostat up above 4 it freezes the other side. What do you think? Bad thermostat? This model has a defrost board, not a timer.
George P April 15, 2014 for Model Number MTF 1893 ARW Automatic Defrost wont shut off and the frost crystals is being built up on the inside of the freezer walls. My worry is fire, the motor keeps running, doesnt shut off. Repairman is due Wed.4/16/14 but its 1 am and I worry about motor getting too hot and starts a fire. Do you feel I should unplug the entire thing?
1 Answer Hello George. We have no way of knowing if the unit is a fire hazard. If you feel it is, then unplug the unit. Read More...
Big Mac 37 March 13, 2014 for Model Number MSD2756DEQ I have a MSD2756DEQ Model Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerator/Freezer. SN 10507386YH, installed in my home May 2000. In the last year I have had the refrigerator side shows warm on my refrigerator thermometer. Because of a similar experience several years ago, I learned from a refrigerator repairman to take the back panel in the freezer compartment off to look at the evaporator. I have done that and each time in the past year it has been coated with ice. Using a hair dryer, I have melted the ice off, put everything back and it works. A friend suggested it could be a problem with the defrost timer. I know there must be some sort of defroster mechanism also. How can I figure out on my own, what is wrong and what part to replace?
1 Answer Hello Big Mac 37, First you need to make sure it is a defrost issue. The frost pattern will tell on the unit. If the frost is only across the top of the coils, the issue is an air flow problem. If the frost covers the complete coils, the issue is probably a defrost issue. The most common defrost component for this unit to experience is that of the adaptive defrost control 61005988. Please note that just replacing the part will not completely clear the issue. The coils have to start out with no frost so if this part is replaced, the coils need to be defrosted with the hair dryer to prevent an issue with the existing ice build-up. Read More...
Andrew January 22, 2014 for Model Number ED2NHEXN00 I have a Whirlpool side by side model that cycles between having a moderately cold freezer compartment (capable of producing ice) and a not-so-cold refrigerator side. This condition persists even with the refrigerator indicator knob at its COLDEST dial setting. On some occasions the ice within the bin begins to thaw. At this point I disconnect the unit for a period of time and then reconnect it. This seems to do the trick until the thawing condition reappears. Where should I begin my diagnosis. I have basic tech skills. Thanks.
1 Answer Andrew, You will want to check to see if the fans in the unit are running when the unit appears to be thawing. This issue sounds like the unit is getting stuck in a defrost cycle. This would happen about every 10 -12 hours that you would notice the temp rising. If this is the case then the defrost control board would need to be replaced, part number WPW10366605. Read More...
Samantha December 23, 2013 for Model Number MSD2756GEB My refrigerator seems like it is stuck in defrost. Everything in my freezer has defrosted and it isn't making any noise.
1 Answer Hello Samantha, The defrost control board 61005988 is one of the two things I would check. If the board doesn't take care of the problem, I would next look at the start device 12002784 for series 26 or lower OR 12002794 for series 27 or higher, on the side of the compressor. If it rattles when you shake it, it is bad. Read More...
Chris December 15, 2013 for Model Number jennair model jcd2389geq On a adaptive defrost system does the polarity of the defrost thermostat matter? I checked the defrost heater and thermostat for continuity and they checked out fine. I installed a new control board but only the lights went on . Condenser fan did not go on. Sounds to me like defective board but what about the polarity question above. Thank you
1 Answer Hello Chris. No, the polarity of the defrost thermostat does not matter. It does sound like a bad board in the unit. Read More...
Michael September 03, 2013 for Model Number MZD2766GE My fridge won't turn on and cool. I was told it was my adaptive defrost module. It does stay nice and warm. I changed out the defrost heater a month ago and 10 month before that also.
1 Answer Hello Michael. If the unit is stuck in defrost cycle, you will need to order and replace the board 61005988 on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...

Robert H July 05, 2013 for Model Number MSD2656DE Ice maker is making ice but is slow to dump the ice.
1 Answer Robert, For slow ice production you will want to check the temp in the freezer to make sure that it is at least 10 degrees or below for optimal icemaker operation. If the temp is too warm then you will need to check for the coils be clogged with ice that will make the unit warmer than normal. Read More...
