The Broken Tab Ice Door Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This kit includes all the necessary components to repair or replace the ice door chute, which is responsible for dispensing ice from the ice maker to the ice bucket or directly to the user. The ice door chute must seal properly to prevent warm air from entering the freezer compartment, which can lead to frost and ice buildup.

Symptoms of a failing or broken ice door chute include:

  • Ice accumulating around the ice dispenser chute
  • Frost buildup in the freezer compartment
  • Warm air leaking into the freezer, causing temperature fluctuations
  • The ice door not closing properly or becoming stuck
  • Unusual noises from the ice dispenser area

Causes of a broken ice door chute can include regular wear and tear, physical damage from mishandling or excessive force, or deterioration of the sealing components over time.

This OEM part is also compatible with some models from Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore.

This kit is used if the ice door mounting tabs are broken off of the dispenser wall. If your model number uses this ice door WP2180353 or this ice door kit W10823377 this kit can be used.

Courtney, you probably already have a ground wire in the dispenser area, if not, go ahead and attach it to the new metal bracket you are installing.

Patrick for Model Number ED5VHEXVB01

After installing the repair bracket, the ice dispenser door would not close. I called and questioned why the alignment was not proper to allow the door to close and was told by your people that I probably had not installed the repair bracket in the proper position. I went back and reexamined the installation and found that the bracket was installed in the proper position. However there are two plastic tabs on the back of the white bracket that holds the micro switches. These are used to align the bracket properly. When the repair bracket is installed these tabs now hit the bracket keeping it down too low to allow the clearance needed for the arm to keep from hitting the white bracket. I filed these tabs off and it worked fine.

Eleanor, based on the information provided, the microswitch on the bracket assembly may have an obstruction (like a wire) that is activating the switch. If there is a wire obstructing the proper operation of the switch, it will need to be moved so that the switch is not activated unless the paddle is pressed in.

Peter, I would always attach the ground wires as this is a part of the electrical safety of the kit. They wouldn't spend the money to add it to the kit if it was not felt it was needed.
