The Drain & Wash Impeller Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This kit includes components critical for the efficient movement of water within the dishwasher, both for washing the dishes and draining the water at the end of the cycle. The impeller aids in creating the necessary water pressure to clean dishes effectively and ensures that water is properly expelled from the dishwasher.

Symptoms of a failing Drain & Wash Impeller Kit include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned thoroughly
  • Water not draining properly from the dishwasher, leaving standing water
  • Unusual noises during the wash or drain cycles, such as grinding or humming
  • The dishwasher cycle taking longer than usual or not completing
  • Visible damage or wear to the impeller components

Causes of a bad impeller kit can include normal wear and tear from regular use, blockages or debris that damage the impeller blades, or issues with the motor that affect impeller performance.

This OEM part is also compatible with some models from brands such as Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Drain & Wash Impeller Kit (Part Number: OEM9345549)

Allan, with the front door panel removed, the main control WP8530929 (part has been discontinued) would need to be tested for 120VAC at the grey wire at terminal P5 to the red and black wire at terminal P10 when set to a drain cycle. If there is not voltage but the pump is operating, the main control has failed and would need to be replaced. If there is voltage, the probe at the red and black wire would stay in place while the other probe would be moved to the yellow wire at terminal P4. If there is voltage on this wire, the main control has failed. However, if there was voltage at terminal P5 and no voltage at terminal P4, the failure would be in the motor WP8534971 windings (part has been discontinued by the manufacturer).

Chuck, Based on the information provided you will need to know if the noise is from the circulation pump or the drain pump to determine which one is the culprit.

Joe, Thanks for the question!!! No, the filter is a sealed assembly. The best that can be done is to remove it and flush it out. The only other option is to replace it WP3384593.

Joe for Model Number DU960PWKS1

watched Drain & Wash Impeller Kit video and decided to take it apart to see what I could see. The washer has been intermittently washing OK, or showing "clean" with "sanitized" light blinking. Sometimes, there will be water in the bottom of the unit when done. Once, it dropped the cascade gel pack, but it did not dissolve. There is, when I happen to watch, vapor coming out of the vent, so it seems to be getting hot. The heater ohms out to 15 ohms, the high limit seems to open when heated and the thermistor read around 53 k ohms at room temp. But, when opening the impeller area I found a rusty screw and a bunch of "gunk" laying around covering the thermistor and in the other areas of that "ring". The ceramic balls were laying one on top of the other, Not sure that is correct. Wondering if I should bother to install the drain&wash impeller kit and the whiteish gasket that is not supplied (as it is torn and gummy) or if it is more likely the control board?

Joe, if the circulation motor is getting proper voltage when the unit should be spraying water, the most likely failure would be the impeller 675806 based on the information provided.

Dharmesh, You'll want to carefully check for 120 VAC across the violet and blue wires at the motor, with the dishwasher in a wash or drain cycle. If you have the voltage, the motor is faulty. if you don't have the voltage check the wiring between the motor and control board and replace the control board if all's OK

Frank for Model Number DU920PFGZ1

I Just purchased your pump kit.. Watched installation vid.. Question my model has a collar inside chop spring and a collar above chopper do i reinstall these as they came out or is parts redesigned to eliminate these. or is this included in instructions. ps a pdf of installation instructions is always helpful when people are looking to buy parts so consumers can contemplate and see if maybe they need other parts to complete their repair... to avoid delays Frank

Martin for Model Number DU9000XR1

I've had this Whirlpool dishwasher for 31 years. This year it gradually started cleaning worse and worse. I checked the source water temperature and it was around 105? so I tried using the High Temperature Wash button. That didn't help, even though I could see steam coming out the front vent. I'm using the same detergent, and the dishwasher drains ok and doesn't make any strange noises. It sounds like the sprayer arms are rotating. I suspect the impeller. Is there any way to tell if the impeller is bad without taking it apart?

Rae for Model Number DU980QPDQ3

My whirlpool dishwasher model # DU980QPDQ3 is not draining well. When trying to check filters etc I broke the washer impeller (I think thats what its called, it is the top black hexagon in the center) trying to get it loose. I ordered new one that was supposedly compatible but I notice the shaft is obvious longer than the original. I don't want to take everything apart if it is the wrong one. My part #305510 is shorter than the part they sent me #3378176. I had to purchase the chop-impeller kit to get this one part #675806. There are no instructions in the kit they sent me. Please help.

Nate, Recheck, and make sure the perforated plate isn't deformed or distorted and is properly secured to the inside of the pump cover. Remove the impellers and make sure the original motor shaft seal at the bottom of the sump was totally removed and the sump housing is clean of any debris, residual seal remnants, etc. When you reinstall the seal, you may want to use a "deep-set" socket to make sure the seal is properly and evenly installed in the sump housing as far down and in as possible. Then ensure that the end of the chopper spring is inserted into one of the openings in the impeller and stays in place until the pump cover is installed. Any one of these scenarios can cause the chopper or the impeller to sit high on the motor shaft and rub against the perforated plate.
