The Surface Burner Spark Electrode is an OEM part for Whirlpool gas ranges. This electrode is responsible for generating the spark that ignites the gas burner, allowing the burner to produce a flame for cooking.

Over time, the spark electrode can become faulty due to exposure to high temperatures, grease, and general wear and tear. This can lead to unreliable ignition or complete failure to ignite the burner.

Symptoms of a bad surface burner spark electrode include:

  • The burner not igniting
  • Weak or intermittent spark
  • Clicking sound without ignition
  • Burner flame going out soon after ignition

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Alan, Make sure the burner base, ignotor and burner caps are clean(no debris, rust, corrosion, etc) the caps are installed on the burner bases properly. Check and make sure the power cord is plugged into a 120 VAC polarized, grounded outlet. Replace the spark module 74009098, not the ignitors. Thanks and Good Luck

John, Try this, Remove the burner cap and look down inside the orifice tube, at the bottom you'll see a brass colored fitting, the hole in the center has got to be open, you may want to take a long needle or pin and check to make sure the orifice is clear. Make sure all the venturi slots on the burner base are clear and the spark igniter has a bright white spark and "hits" in the same location. If all is OK, suspect a clogged or damaged burner valve. Good Luck and Thanks
