1 Answer Hello Larry. Remove power. Open door and lock the hinges. Remove the door. Look under the front corners and remove the 2-1/4" screws to lift the top. Support the top so it is safe. Note all wires and use a magnifying glass to see all terminals. Use a black felt marker to scribe the burner mount screws so you use the correct stamped burner mount screws upon reassembly. The new burner needs to be centered correctly. Read More...
Diana January 18, 2014 for Model Number MER5770aaw Hi, I brought a dual element 12002144 (AP4009116) from you. Can you tell me how to wire it? I have 2B and 2A on top and 1B and 1A on the bottom (1A is pre-connected to the element). Thanks!
1 Answer Diana, The wiring on your unit is as follows: the double red will go to 1b, yellow will go to the inside terminal for the burner and tan will go to the outer terminal. One single red to hot surface element will go to 2b and the other wire will connect to 2a. Read More...
Craig January 13, 2014 for Model Number maytag MER6750AAW The right front cooktop element turns on high for 10 seconds or so then shuts off. Is it the element or the limiter or something else?? Thanks
1 Answer Craig, This issue would be caused by a faulty limiter. You would want to replace the element as the limiter is part of the element W10823709. Read More...
Diana January 08, 2014 for Model Number Maytag Range I have Maytag range and ordered AP4009116 (12002144) from you. When I ordered it I supplied the model number and they said it was the correct one. I currently do not have the number. I replaced the broken dual element with yours. I made sure that the wires are all correct. However, when I turned on the back burner, it automatically turned on the new element. Would you please advise? Thanks!
1 Answer Hello Diana. It is not wired properly. Without the model number, we can not help on this. We will need your model number. Thanks. Read More...
Brian S. December 11, 2013 for Model Number JES9800AAB After replacing the right front dual infinite switch with part no. 12002125 the right front element still stays on high and does not cycle. To me this indicates that the thermal switches in the elements are fused in the closed position. You show two replacement elements for my range. What is the difference between these and which is best for this range. (JES9800AAB, serial number 17458931AX). Thank you, Brian S.
2 Answers Brian, we do not have the specs to verify the exact difference. However, there is a series change within your model. The correct right front element listed for your model/serial number is part number W10823709. Thanks! Read More...

Adub May 25, 2012 for Model Number MER5780BAW I order a dual element (AP4009116) and I can't seem to get it wired properly. I had the inner element working but not the whole thing could you tell me how it's suppose to be wired.
1 Answer Adub, You probably have a crossed wire at the element sensor, especially if you went wire for wire. Some terminals were relocated by the manufacturer. You'll need to remove the element and varify the terminal numbers in order to wire the element correctly. So, At the sensor assembly : 1A will have the single red wire from the infinite switch. 1B will have the double red wires common to all burner sensors. 2A is pre wired with the jumper tp the element common lead. 2B will have the double tan wires attached, common to all sensors and "hot Surface" lights. At the element side terminals, the terminal farthest from the sensor will have the yellow wire attached , this is the outer ring element circuit. The remaining wire will attach to the terminal closest to the sensor, this is the inner ring element terminal. And the middle terminal should have the "common' lead from the sensor attached to it. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
Orygunguy May 15, 2012 for Model Number MES5870AAB Your answer was not specific enough as I had removed the leads from the old element and put them to the same leads BUT it did not work...so I removed two leads at a time swapping them around to see if I could get it to work...I am only able to get one circuit to work at a time...they should work together and then just the small element independent of the larger. I not longer have the original placement reference. Maybe the element is defective.
1 Answer Hello orygunguy. It sounds like the issue may be the switch and not the element. Test the switch and see if there is power to both lead wires. If not, and only one section of the element is working, you will need to order and replace the switch in the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Orygunguy May 12, 2012 for Model Number MES5870AAB What is the proper wiring of the front dual element AP4009116 on a Maytag MES5870AAB? The element supplied has a dual element, a small inner portion and an outer portion that wraps around the inner. The image that you use on your web site shows the OLD style connections. While the connection points are different than those on the original (two points fused rather than using a jumper wire, no problem). Placing the leads on the new connectors as on the old connectors the element does not function to have both elements on at the same time creating a large heating surface ? Can you, please, supply the proper lead conection (by Color) for the "new" element design?
1 Answer Hi Orygunguy. You did order and receive the correct part number AP4009116. There have been several updates to the elements on several brands. As you noted, there is no wire from the sensor assembly to the element. There is now a permanently fixed umper tab. The heat resistant insulation ring between the outer and inner element has also been removed. Engineers determined, it was an unnecessary component. You should be able to replace the element, and install the wiring location for location(wiring is the same as the old). Your only concern would be to make sure the wires for the 1A and 1B terminals on the sensor device of the old element. Are on the same terminals on the new element, your hot surface light will not work properly if they are not. Thanks for your inquiry. Read More...
