Hello Michael, This unit does not require a bypass plug. You should be able to remove the filter and water will automatically bypass the filter. Look closely under the unit with a flashlight though, since a common failure of the housing is that when the filter is removed, water will dispense into the floor if the filter housing has failed.

Francine, Yes the EDR5RXD1 filter is the correct water filter for the model number you supplied. But, the water filter has nothing to do with the refrigerator/freezer cooling. Here are a few checks to make : check and clean the lower kickplate (where the filter is located, debris and pet hair, etc can block the air flow, move the refrigerator out unplug the power cord and remove the compressor compartment cover vacuum and clean the area and components. Open the freezer door and check to see if the evaporator fan is running and blowing the air towards you. Close the door, open the refrigerator door, reach up in the left hand corner near the ceiling and see if you can feel air moving into the refrigerator from the freezer compartment. The water filter should be changed, (if present) and make sure the water tank is not partially freezing to help the water dispensers' performance. Lee, The freezer light bulb is a "standard 40 watt "appliance" light bulb 8009 / 8009. "To Replace an Appliance Bulb: 1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. 2. Remove the light shield(s), if necessary.( Squeeze both sides of the light shield while pulling downward to remove. 3. Replace burned-out bulb(s) with appliance light bulb(s) no greater than 40 watts. 4. Replace the light shield(s) by inserting the tabs on the shield into the liner holes and snap into place.
