For Whirlpool Dryer Drum Front Glide (Part Number: OEM18022800)

Bry for Model Number JDE1000W

When running, my dryer makes a scraping sound. I think I've narrowed it down to the left side glide. It's actually NOT THERE (was a previously owned dryer). I'm thinking about buying this ap4008680 to replace both glides and felt. My question is, is this the correct kit? On my model dryer the drum sits up on two triangular metal pieces. What is the metal brace for? Do I HAVE to take out the entire drum (and disassemble the belt) in order to do this repair? Or is there a simple way to install them without having to do that? Does this kit come with glue for the felt, or do I need that separately? Thanks

Hello Bry, This WP31001470 will work on your unit. The metal piece is to cover the dome should it be worn out and not able to support the slides. The glue WPY055980 will come separately. The pads WP31001356 will also need to be ordered since the kit you were looking at has been eliminated by the manufacturer. The drum has to be removed to complete this repair properly.

Larry, You will want to check the blower wheel to make sure that there is nothing caught in the blower that could cause drag on the motor. Also check the rollers to make sure that they are good. Check the drum to make sure that it is not damaged.

Hello Steve. You need to check and see if the rollers WP31001096 are causing the unit to bind up or if the felt seals are bad on the unit. Also, make sure the braces 12002126 are not bad on the unit as well and the glides WP31001470 are good on the unit.

Richard, You should probably order this "kit" 12002126 since you're replacing both slides. First, you need to unplug the power cord or remove power to the dryer, and slide it out 4 to 6 inches. Use a putty knife or similar tool and insert it into the seam between the front panel and top and press in on the spring tabs and lift up on the top corner to release the top from the cabinet. with the top up and against the wall, look in the cabinet interior and remove the two(2) screws(one on each side) that attach the front panel to the cabinet side flange, lean the front panel out enough the disconnect the wires from the door switch, then lean it out enough the dislodge the drum from the front panel and set the front panel aside. Make a note of the belt routing and reach around the motor and release the belt from the idler pulley Pull out on the drum and turn it in a clockwise direction at the samee time, to release the drum from the rear roller assemblies, then slide the drum and belt out of the cabinet. You now have access to the drum glides. One is mounted on the top of the blower housing and the other is on the top of the drum support stantion. They are both slot and twist fittings and will not need any adhesive or rivets. Once the glides are installed you may want to apply a small "dab" of silicone lubricant to the new pads, then reverse the procedures, and test the dryer.

Hello Debra. On some models, there is no bulk head and you will see a support under the drum in the front where the glide is on the top of the support. Either way, the front panel will need to be removed. We will need your model number to help you with this. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. Thank you. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx
