The Ice Dispenser Chute Door is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component is located in the ice dispenser mechanism on the freezer door and is responsible for opening and closing the ice chute. The chute door helps to dispense ice properly and prevents warm air from entering the freezer compartment, which can lead to frost buildup and inefficient cooling.

Symptoms of a failing Ice Dispenser Chute Door include:

  • Ice not dispensing properly or getting stuck in the chute
  • Frost or ice buildup around the ice dispenser area
  •  Warm air entering the freezer, causing temperature fluctuations
  • The dispenser door not opening or closing correctly, leading to gaps

Causes of a bad ice dispenser chute door can include wear and tear from regular use, damage from ice jams or blockages, and degradation of the door’s sealing mechanism over time.

This OEM part is also compatible with some models from Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore.

Note: This part longer uses the ribbon heater due to the improved foam design. If your refrigerator uses this ice door and the mounting tabs are broken, you can use the broken tab ice door kit 8201756.

Bobby Roberts for Model Number gd5shgxkb01

After 15 years the ice chute has suddenly started to build up ice crystals. The door still closes but the black foam face has indentations where it seals. I assume the heater has given up. I'm not comfortable with GEs fix of saving money with an alternate design that eliminated the heater. Is there a kit I can buy that includes the heated chute door? Your answer to a Kenmore question seemed to indicate this. In your experience how well does the non heated chute door (WP2180353) work keeping out the moisture/warmth that causes the crystal buildup? Thanks in advance

Vern, You will want to remove the dispenser panel and there is a control board behind it. You will want to check at the control board to make sure that there is 12 vdc going to the dispenser door motor. If there is then the motor is bad and will need to be replaced.

Girish, There are 3 screws on the front of the dispenser, if you have stainless panels then they may be behind the panels, that you will need to remove. One on there side and one on the bottom. Remove these screws and you should be able to removed the dispenser front and paddles. This will then give you access to the internal components of the dispenser assembly.

John, Unfortunately the manufacturer does not have printed instructions on this. Based on the information that from the part, it would appear that there is a screw on either side of the dispenser housing and one at the bottom of the housing. Also remove the drip tray as there may be 2 screw located there. Once removed the housing should come off in order to access the dispenser door.
