Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker Kit (Part Number: OEM18049893)

Hello G.E., If the fill tube isn't frozen up and the water valve operates when energized, the issue has to be in the ice maker. You see, the ice maker tells the water valve when to open and when to close by the use of a thermostat that monitors the cube temperature and a couple of sets of contacts that energize the water inlet valve. From the description of your problem, the ice maker motor module or the complete ice maker assembly will require replacement to restore the units' normal operation. This is, of course, a general description of the ice makers' operation.Without the model number, there is no way to go into detail or list any part numbers since all parts in the appliance industry are model specific.

Hello Chet, please check your evaporator drain trough or the drain tube for a blockage. When the unit enters defrost it melts the frost build up on the evaporator and the water should run down the trough and tube to the drain pan at the bottom of the unit. If there is a blockage, the water could be running elsewhere. Hope this helps!

Sam for Model Number Whirlpool refrigerator with ice maker in freezer compartment

The ice maker stopped working altogether. I removed the ice maker from the freezer and I tried to turn the wheel on the front which turns the blades, but the blades would not turn at all. I removed the housing which is the function for the gear and the gear still can not be turned by hand. I am thinking I need to replace this part, IM #S 106 626633, am I correct in my amateur diagnosis? Thank you for your help. sam

Sam, You may want to re install and test the ice maker again. Hopefully you didn't damage anything by accident. You'll need to get a short length of 14 guage insulated wire, and remove 1/2 inch of insulation from both ends of the wire. Tape the freezer door switch closed, insert one end of the jumper wire into the "T" and the other in the "H" openings, and hold it there until the main gear starts to rotate, then remove it, and allow the ice maker to advance through the cycle. Please supply a model number on your next post, it will help to properly assist you.

Hello Carole, The ice maker fill adjustment screw can only be turned 1 turn in either direction. Turning the adjustment screw further than this will damage the ice maker control module. #/4 of a turn will only change the fill by 10cc, which isn't enough to make any difference. You probably have a bad fill valve WP2315576.

Hello Carole, The mold heater and module have both probably failed. The best fix for this is replacing the ice maker assembly4317943.

Hello Martin, If the unit never filled with water, I would change the water inlet valve W10408179. I would try forcing a cycle and see if it fills with water. (Force a cycle by using an insulated piece of wire to jump the 120Vac from T to H). If it does, you should take the freezer temperature to make sure the unit is achieving temperatures. The freezer should run between 0° and 10°F without dropping below 0°F. If it doesn't fill with water, the water inlet valve has failed or the fill tube is frozen up. If the fill tube is frozen up, the water inlet valve replacement will cure this issue. You will still have to thaw the fill tube out with a hair dryer.
