The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines.  This part controls the flow of water into the appliance during the fill cycle. This assembly consists of a valve that opens and closes to allow water from the household supply to enter the washing machine at the right times and in the correct amounts, depending on the selected wash cycle and water temperature settings.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include sediment buildup, which restricts water flow, wear and tear that impairs the valve's operation, or electrical issues that prevent the valve from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • The washing machine not filling with water
  • Water filling too slowly or overflowing
  • Unusual noises during the fill cycle
  • Water not reaching the desired temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve Assembly (Part Number: OEM18027165)

Eric

My Whirlpool Model # WTW5505SQ1 was pulsing during warm/hot water fill. Sometimes if you let it go it would eventually stop. I researched it and it looked like the fix was the water inlet valve. I recently replaced water inlet valve, Noticed a little bit of corrosion on the wire connectors of what I believe is the thermister on bottom of original inlet valve. I tried soaking the connectors in a baking soda and water solution to break up corrosion on the connectors and blew them off good. My thinking was that the connection might not be good. The still pulses when trying to fill with warm/hot water. I pulled hoses from machine and opened valves to check flow. Water flow for both hot & cold seems sufficient. I don't know where else to turn... Any ideas?

Eric, Check the screens inside the water valve where the water lines are connected and make sure that they are not clogged up. This would be the most likely cause. If this checks ok then either the water valve is faulty or the control board is sending out a bad signal.

Snowbird80 for Model Number WTW5600SQ0

Hi there. I have a Whirlpool model WTW5600SQ0 washing machine, and whenever it's set on the "cool," "warm," or "hot" water setting, it "stutters" (water turns on/off very rapidly, shaking the pipes and sounds fairly loud). After a few minutes, the water starts coming out normally. The cold rinse is fine, and if you set the whole cycle on cold, it's also normal. I had the repair guy out a couple months ago, and he replaced some kind of valve, but that didn't fix the issue. Any idea what this could be?

Snowbird80, You will want to check to make sure that the water supply is good and make sure that the screens are not clogged on the valve. The other thing that would cause this issue would be a temp switch that is faulty. The temp switch is part number WP8578335 and would be possibly pulsing voltage to the valve.

Steve for Model Number WET4027EW0

This unit is a stackable Washer/dryer combo. The washer is small to begin with & only fills halfway. I checked the owners manuial & it states this is normal (energy saving model). The intake screens are clean & I pulled the pressure switch to adjust & cannot. The screw is a recessed post that cannot be accessed with conventional tools. I called whirlpool to try to find the proper service tool & they said they don't know. I can probably make a tool but how much will the adjustment even help. It looks like it's in the center position now with plus or minus adjustment available. The part # for the pressure swtich is AP6008917. Help please. I'm ready to sell it, it's useless.

Steve, With this being an energy saver model then this will be normal and would not be able adjust the pressure switch on the unit.

Hello Charles, no you can't but you might want to test the thermister mounted on the water valve with a multimeter. The thermister at 68° F - 77° F should read between 50 - 62 thousand ohms. If the thermister is working, you might want to make sure the hot water valve is allowing hot water into the unit. If all test good then the unit is working as it should. Hope this helps!

Jim, Unfortunately the thermistor would not be able to be bypassed or disconnected from the unit. There is a control board fault that will appear if it is disconnected.

Marcus, Next to each of the ports there should be a letter stamped into the metal, one will be C for cold and the other H for hot. Normally the hot will be on top but check for this letter stamp.

Hello Dusty. The unit uses a thermistor to mix the water. It will bring in hot water to dissolve the soap in the unit. This is the way it is designed. The cold rinse is always going to happen even on a hot wash cycle. If you think it has failed, then the water valve unit WPW10601448 will need to be replaced.

Bill, The newer "E" (energy efficient) washers, have "target temperatures, and the control will cycle the hot water valve off and on during the fill cycle on all temperature settings. Check to make sure you have plenty of hot water supplied to the machine, and the debris screens are clear. If the noise is a "chattering" or rapid cycle noise, then replace the fill valve.

Hello Bill. Test and see if the power is pulsating coming to the valve. If not, then the water valve will need to be replaced on the unit.
