The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines.  This part controls the flow of water into the appliance during the fill cycle. This assembly consists of a valve that opens and closes to allow water from the household supply to enter the washing machine at the right times and in the correct amounts, depending on the selected wash cycle and water temperature settings.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include sediment buildup, which restricts water flow, wear and tear that impairs the valve's operation, or electrical issues that prevent the valve from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • The washing machine not filling with water
  • Water filling too slowly or overflowing
  • Unusual noises during the fill cycle
  • Water not reaching the desired temperature

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Crista.C. It sounds like the pressure switch or the pressure hose is bad on the unit. You need to make sure the hose is not clogged, broke, or cracked on the unit. If it is good, replace the pressure switch.

Hello Richard. This valve uses a thermistor and will not bring in the water as you set it, but brings it in as needed. Most wash cycles will be with cold even when set to hot. If you think it is not working right, and the temp switch is good, you will need to order and replace the valve on the unit.

I was given a whirlpool washer because mine quit working. I was told that you had to manually change the cycles on the machine, but when I tried to use it the cold water continued to run. So, I shut off the cold water and proceeded to use the washer with hot water. After initial filling, and agitation, the washer would not fill because I had shut off the cold water. In order to fill, I needed to turn back on, and then off after filling. Does this seem to be the problem with my washer? Water Intake valve? What's the chance that's the problem, if I order this part?

Hello Stella. Based on the information you provided, for the timer not advancing, replace the timer. For the cold water issue, replace the valve.

New machine only 2yr old? NO Cold Water? supplied at any part of cycle? It works fine. We manually fill it with hot water. disconnected from the back. I am no expert but I removed the cover, and the Water vlv measure .787 KOhms on the bottom Solennoid which is the HOT one AND .8 KOhms on the COLD? but there is NO continuity in any of these? There is another two connectors for the mixing going inside the machine this gets 51.5 KOhms and again there is NO continuity? Is the Water Mixing Valve 3979346 Bad? How come I only get COLD water? Is could be the Temperature Switch? I thank You very Much.

Hillbilly, It's most likely an issue in the water level switch W10339251 or wiring, not the water inlet valve. If the water stops filling, when you unplug the power cord, turn the machine OFF, or the washer is in the spin cycle, the issue is NOT likely in the water valve.
