Drew January 23, 2013 for Model Number 60854991 The compressor to my kenmore refridgerator is rumbling and making lots of noise. Obviously not worth replacing the compressor but could it be possible that the compressor relay needs to be changed? The fridge is still cooling properly but just really REALLY loud!! Thanks
1 Answer Hello Drew, A bad start relay would not cause the compressor to make a rumbling noise. Noise from compressor are normally associated with the internal springs either coming loose or wearing out. If compressor is rumbling you would want to replace compressor. Read More...
Glenn H August 14, 2012 for Model Number PTB21AAGRW My unit is cycling on overload. The compressor is tring to start but won't. I tapped it with a hammer and got it running but this am it was down again. Will your overload kit solve the problem or can I install a hardstart kit or buy another fridge? The unit is about 8 years old.

Rick February 20, 2012 for Model Number Magic Chef CTB1722GR I have successfully installed this kit on my 8 year old Magic Chef refrigerator with the exception of the black plastic electrical cover. The PTC Start Device and Overload are securely attached to the compressor and all the wiring connections are made and the fridge is working again. However, try as I might, the existing metal surrounding that is welded onto the compressor seems to make it impossible to install the Electrical Cover (610006298) that is included with this kit. My unit actually is upside down from what is pictured in the directions and the whit Overload had to go on top, not on the bottom. This leads me to believe there might be a design issue and the case goes on some other way or perhaps not at all? My question is, should the Electrical Cover fit on my model fridge? And/or, is it safe to just leave the cover off?
1 Answer Hello Rick. The cover can be a real chore to install if you've never done it before. The trick is to first get the wires all through the slot and hook the cover completely under the bottom bracket on the compressor. At this point, rotating the cover up will hook it over the top bracket. When it hooks on properly, it will actually make a sound that sounds like you just broke it. The sound is the cover snapping in place. The wire slot will, (if you looked at the compressor directly toward the start relay and overload connections) will point toward the right. To answer your other question, I would definitely not leave it off. The manufacturer is not going to spend any extra money on an unnecessary part. Hope this helps you out! Read More...
Robert December 08, 2011 for Model Number MTB 2156 GEW rev13 Maytag refrigerator Below is the answer to my previous question regarding which wires go where, everthing is good except the part about the ground wire. There is no green wire except for one attached to the refer chassis which goes into the wireing harness. Should I make up a ground wire attach one end to the chassis and the other end to the tab on the compressor? Answer, KIT, OVERLOAD/RELAY - Kit was recently redesigned by manufacturer. Instructions included. Part Number: AP4009659. You first install the overload ion the compressor top "tri"terminal w/ blue wire attached. Then push on the ptc relay. Then hook the white neutral wire on the #1 ptc terminal. The jumper wire goes to the origional narrower orange wire terminal which the other side hooks to the # 2 terminal . Yes all the wires will slide through the large cover side slit opening. The green wire is chassis ground and needs to be secures to the compressor side tang with a screw hole. It has a ground symbol next to it. Scrape the black paint from this point as you need a solid bond electrically for ground. Make sure the screw does not extrude into the relay assy. If you have a model with the run capacitor, you can connect it between the #1 and the #2 terminals. Place the cover under the bottom of the relay area and clip the bottom of the cover there. Make sure you dress the wires so they have proper slack and do0 not get pinched. Then finish snap, clipping the top of the cover to the compressor clips. This will take a little effort as the compressor runs and jiggles. It needs to be safe and tight. Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Robert. If there is no ground wire on the unit for the compressor, you will need to make one and run it from the chasis to the compressor tab. Hope this helps. Read More...
Robert November 20, 2011 for Model Number MTB 2156 GEW rev 13 James at appliance parts pro looked up my refrigerator and ordered overload relay kit # AP4009659, Whirlpool 12002782 for me. This kit differs from what was originally in the unit. The original PTC and overload were housed in white rectagular box that used a clip to attach it to the side of the compressor. Part of this box was also the case for all of the PTC start device parts. The replacement kit has the PTC seperate in its own case, from the overload with a large black plastic box to cover them also there is no mounting provision for this box on the side of the compressor as shown in the instruction sheet. On the side of the original white case next to where the smaller terminal tabs come out is the #1 that has a orange wire attached to it and next to the other larger terminal is the #4 that has a white wire attached to it. These two terminals are to the PTC that is built into this case. At the other end of the case is where the terminal for the overload passes through the case. It has a dark bluegreen wire attached. Can this kit be used with this refrigerator and if so which wires attach to which terminals and would these parts need to be attached to the compressor body? Both the old and new overload appear to be the same. Help on this would be appreciated.

Vincent July 22, 2011 for Model Number PTB1949GRW My refrigerator is 10 years old. It has stopped cooling. I changed it with the kit shown above. It began to cool and now it's not cooling down although it hasn't yet been 24 hrs. There does now seem to be a click-type popping sound every 10 minutes or so. Can you please help me before I set it on fire! LOL!
1 Answer Hello Vincent. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the compressor is bad on the unit. If you replaced the relay overload and the compressor started, and now is clicking, it is building up pressure, and can not restart. You will need to replace the compressor 12001872. Hope this helps. Jody W. April 28, 2011 for Model Number CT17G4W Refrigerator is just 5 years old. Doesn't keep items cold. Makes a ticking noise every so often, that is quite annoying then seems to shut down. Is this related to one of the Crosely recall parts?
1 Answer Hello Jody. It sounds like the relay overload 12002782 may be bad on the unit. They have redesigned the kit for better performance.
