For Whirlpool Lamp (Part Number: OEM9542778)

1 Answer

Tom, the bulb 8206232A for the cooktop light on the microwave should not have a wire connected to it unless there has been a modification done. There should only be two wires going to the bulb base W10210871.

Joy, it would be recommended that the frame 8169646 and glass W10189668 are replaced as needed as any opening leading out can impact the operation of the microwave, possibly cause other parts to fail, and it would not be as safe as possible.

Scott for Model Number KHHC2090SSS-2

I tried replacing the surface light bulbs with 2 watt, 12 volt, LED equivalents to hopefully lengthen the bulbs life and reduce heat/power consumption. However, they will not illuminate when switched on. If I replace one of the LED’s with a standard 10 watt, 12 volt, halogen bulb, then both light will illuminate properly. Is there something in the lighting circuit that requires a minimum current draw to allow the lights to function? If I’m using two 2 watt LED’s, which only draws 4 watts total, is this insufficient for the lighting circuit to function properly? Appreciate and help or comments!

1 Answer

Scott, the bulbs would need to draw more current so that proper current flow can operate both lights as they are on a parallel series circuit. By utilizing lower watt bulbs, the current is not going to flow through the relay properly to allow the bulbs to illuminate.
