The Door Latch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is the mechanism that securely holds the range door shut during cooking operations.

Causes for a bad door latch can include wear and tear of moving parts over time exposing them to high heat, improper cleaning allowing residue to build up and corrode components, or physical damage like bending from excessive force on the door.

Symptoms of a door latch issue include:

  • Inability to fully close the range door
  • Sagging or loose door that does not feel secure during baking and broiling
  • Door that will not safely stay shut on its own

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

RC, When you finally get the display reset and start the oven, do you have the "F5 E1" code ? With all the difficulty you're having trying to reset and program a cycle, you could have a weak or faulty Key pad assembly W10122299 Thanks and Good Luck

Keith for Model Number RBS305 PRSOO

I attempted to use the self-cleaning option on my oven. I pushed clean, etc. The oven started the cleaning process, but then stopped after about 5 minutes. The automatic latch on the door did not retract the way it should have. It is partially out. I was able to open the oven door. After attempting to start the clean function a 2nd time, the blower goes on, but the temp does not work. I cannot get the oven to clean or to bake now. How do I reset the door latch? If I need to replace it or manually reset it how do I get access to it? I took the stainless steel cover off the control module, but there is a black plastice cover on the module. I did not see how to take this plastic cover off. Also, I took the 2 screws out of the narrow vent cover that is between the control module and oven door. I could not take is off because the hot air vent tube from the oven goes thru this plastic grate. Someone suggested I should be able to take this grate off. I did not see how to take it off with the tube going thru it. I looked in the tube and there is a small screw going thru the tube into the frame and it is about 2 inched back in the tube. I do not see how I can access this screw except by getting at it from the top (hence the need-I think to get access to the contol module). So of there is a way to reset the latch without taking everything apart I would appreciate the help.

Keith, you will need to remove the control panel assembly " 1. Disconnect the electrical power to the oven. 2. Open the oven door.3. Remove the bottom screw from each of the two side trim pieces. 4. To remove the side trim, pull the bottom out approximately 2?, and slide the top down to free it from the control panel.5. Remove the screws from the oven control panel sides under the trim strip.6. To remove the oven control panel, pull it out at the bottom, and lift and unhook it from the oven cabinet support at the top." You can then check the switch assembly and wires for damage WPW10195934. Good Luck and Thanks

Rick, the door lach assembly is located and accessed from the front. Heres some information "1. Unplug range or disconnect power. 2. Pull the range forward so you can access the two end cap screws. 3. To remove the electronic oven control (EOC) assembly on slide-in models: a) Remove the two screws from the sides of the left and right end caps. b) Open the oven door and remove the four screws from the bottom of the control panel. c) Pull out on the bottom of the control panel, unclip the top edge from the bracket, and rotate the control panel forward so you can access the components.d) Disconnect the wire connectors from the electronic oven control board at P1 and P2, and the ribbon cable connector at P40.you should be able to set the control panel and control aside. To remove the door latch assembly: a) Open the oven door and remove the two front mounting screws from the air vent. b) Remove the two top screws from the door latch assembly bracket.c) Pull the door latch assembly forward as far as it will go, and disconnect the wires from the terminals of the two switches and the motor. d) Remove the door latch assembly from the unit." Good Luck and Thanks

Russ, If that oven got hot enough, yyou also blew the control thermal fuse up in the control panel harness WP4456654. You should also check and make sure, your door seal is in tact, full oven door does not pass a 90 dgr. angle when fully opened, and make sure your blower fan is rotating and moving plenty of air. Good Luck and Thanks

Luis for Model Number kess908sps00

I have a 3 year old KitcheAid 30" electric range made by Whirlpool (Model KESS908SPS00 and SN XU2910861). In cleaning mode, the door latch does not unlock once the cleaning cycle has completed, even when left overnight to cool sufficiently. To unlock the door, I have to remove the latch mechanism and manually disengage the locking mechanism. Will replacing the latch mechanism (PN AP4429328) correct this problem or is the problem related to the temperature sensor not signaling that the oven has cooled sufficiently? Your advise would be appreciated.

Luis, what failure code do you get in the display ? You should have a code if you try and program a cook mode. You will need to remove the control panel to access the self clean latch assembly WPW10195934 and check the wiring, switches and motor for damage and proper circuitry. Since you can use the range with the latch bypassed the problem should be in the wiring or switches on the latch. Good Luck.

Jeff, Checked to make sure you have the correct part number for the latch, and you do. so to wire the new latch assembly, looking at the assembly from the front , the switch on the left, should be the door switch and have a Tan/ Orange wire on one terminal and Brown wire on the other. The door latch switch is on the right side and should have the Tan wire on one terminal and a Blue wire on the other terminal. I'm pretty sure you'll be OK from there. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello! The door latch WPW10195934 is a direct replacement to the original door latch. It has been redesigned so it is possible it may look different. I have verified this matches your Whirlpool model RBS305PRQ00. Hope that helps!
