1 Answer Ed, For this issue, you would want to check the diode to make sure that it is good as this would cause the issue. The diode part number is WPR9800486. Read More...
Greg December 29, 2019 for Model Number KitchAid KCMS 1555SSS- 2 Hi- This unit was, oddly enough, turning on when opening the door (would not turn off hitting buttons while door open) and then turning off when closing the door. Then it would operate and cook normally. We where living with that for a weeks but then it stopped heating. Still running when opening the door, and when closing it would run appearing normal but no cooking now. We would just 'bite the bullet' and buy a new one but this fits into a 24" wide cabinet and the new ones do not offer any (that we can see) that make a compatible 24" wide trim kit. All are minimum 27" wide trims. So -we are at the mercy of trying to get this fixed or finding one turning up on ebay some year.... Thank you for your time and any advise! Greg
2 Answers Greg, You will need to test the door switches on the microwave as these will be the most likely cause of this issue. Read More...

2 Answers Hello GReg, replace the top and bottom door switches, 4392027 , this shows as a 2 pack of switches. Read More...
Rick April 24, 2017 for Model Number KCMS185JSS5 The microwave has been slowly getting louder for some time. Believe it or not it has been like that for a year or so. It seems to heat just fine. Checked the diode with a 9V battery and get a 3V voltage drop in one direction ok. Capacitor reads the 1uF ok. Magnetron read .3 ohms across terminals and infinity from each terminal to ground. Everything seems to read ok. Any thoughts?
1 Answer Hello Rick, It could be that the noise is coming from the fan motor in the unit. You may want to check those out. Read More...
Pat April 19, 2017 for Model Number ACM 2160 AW Started to heat water. Sound from M/Wave has gotten loud. No function with heating.
1 Answer Hello Pat. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron. Read More...
Jack February 13, 2017 for Model Number ACM2160AB Have had several incidents where we had arcing from behind the protective cover/shield [on wall inside cavity] for the magnetron accompanied by loud hum and popping sound. This happened several times in the past year, but would always operate properly once again after being turned off and restarted. However, now, unit continues to arc and even burn the protective cover/shield. I suspect that I need a new magnetron unit...........or could it be something else?
Don October 02, 2015 for Model Number GT4185SKQ0 Earlier I posted a question about my microwave failing to heat anything in the oven. It started to function a short time later after I removed it from the cabinet. When it failed the main fan was working because it was blowing hot air from the interior. Also the turntable and light was on. When I had it open the stirrer was also functioning. From the schematic I found inside it looks like relay 2 powers the magnetron and the humidity sensor allows relay 2 to latch. The only other thing I see that would prevent the magnetron from broadcasting, apart from its failure is the cap, HV transformer, or diode failure. Any thoughts? My only knowledge of microwaves is from 5g radio navigation equipment my former employer had for surveying. Thank you!
1 Answer Don, There is a thermostat on the magnetron in which the thermostat could be sticking and causing the magnetron to not heat. This would be the first thing to test. The other thing that would make it intermittent would be the control board as all parts would either work or not work. Read More...
Donald October 01, 2015 Unit was heating food for several minutes then I noticed it sounded strange. Heat was coming out of the lower cooling vent, it's usually warm, food stopped heating. Inside of cabinet was very warm all over. Placed a cup of water inside and ran for a minute. Water was still room temperature. A couple of hours later I tried to heat water and it boiled. Strange noise is gone too. I was going to take it apart to start troubleshooting but now it wouldn't quit.
1 Answer Hello Donald. Check and see if one of the fan motors failed inside the unit. It may not be cooling the magnetron. Read More...
