For Whirlpool Water Inlet Flow Meter (Part Number: OEM18045138)

Justin for Model Number WFW9400VE01

I have been occasionally getting F20 codes, but it seems to *always* be when the washer is overfilled (too many towels, or kids stuff it too full). It also seems to throw an F20 when you try and watch some heavy sweaters or something on delicate mode. This is what confuses me - if you put a light load in, it works flawlessly. If it were a pressure switch, valve, or flow meter, wouldn't it consistently throw an F20? It always seems to be related to too heavy of a load. If it F20's on me, I hit cancel, wait for it to drain, then take out half the load and start all over. This works 100% of the time. Thoughts?

1 Answer

Hello Justin, F 20 is a water underfill code, the washer could not fill to the correct water level in the time allowed. Which would match the large clothes load as the larger load is absorbing more water as the washer fills. Suggest you check that the hot/cold faucets are wide open, no clogged fill hose screens, and if all seems ok replace the inlet water valve, part WP8182862.

Alysha, with the power cord unplugged, it would be recommended that the top panel is removed so that the wires, valve WPW10247305, and main control WPW10420115 (unfortunately, the main control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available) can be inspected for any burn marks. As there is not an error code showing, the failure would likely be in the main control but inspecting for any damaged or loose sections would verify if there is another possible failure.

Duane, it would be recommended that the valves WPW10156253 are inspected for clogged filter screens. Clogged screens can reduce water flow and cause the F-20 error code. In regards to the detergents not dispensing, it would be recommended that the dispenser housing cover W11193815 is inspected for any detergent residue that may be clogging the ducts and cleaned as necessary. If there is not a detergent residue clogging any of the ducts, the next step would be identifying if the dispenser motor assembly WPW10352973 is rotating the dispenser arm during operation. The dispenser motor is responsible for moving the dispenser arm to direct where the water flows in the housing.

Ron, Based on the information provided this machine has a self-diagnostics mode. You can use this to narrow down the issue. The tech sheet packaged with the machine should contain the diagnostic procedures. If you continue to have problems or can't find the tech sheet you can call appliancepartspros.com at 1-877-477-7278 and one of our agents will be happy to help walk you through the process.

Hello Jeff. You'll have to check the pressure switch hose p/n AP6014706 for holes and clogs. Then blow into to clear any debris in it and in the pressure dome down at the bottom at the tub. If that's not going to help, replace the pressure switch AP6022522. Thank you.

Phill for Model Number WFW9600TA01

When I first received the washer I had tested it just on a faucet because I was unable to get the washer into place, so I only had a cold line hooked up and the drain line. While the machine was running through the cycle water was coming OUT of the Hot Water Inlet on my washing machine in addition to the normal drain line. I then had to connect a hose to my inlet valve to drain this water. So when connecting the washer to its actual normal hot and cold connections there was a leak coming downstairs during operation, to troubleshoot, I first had the drain hose into a large tote bin to verify there wasn't any blockage in the drain pipe, still water leaked. then I disconnected the hot water inlet connected a hose from my washer to the tote and replaced the drain hose in its proper spot in the wall. The drain hose did it's thing no leak, and the hot water supply inlet hose to the tote bin had the same amount of water as a drain cycle and no leak. What can cause water to come OUT of the Hot water inlet valve? TIA.

1 Answer

Hello Phil, that is correct, the wash fill is temperature-controlled, the control will power the hot valve as needed to raise the incoming water temperature, because the hot and cold water flow in the valve has a common output the hot water will backflow through the unconnected hot side .

Josh, if the only way to shut off the water is to turn the faucet off, you have a bad inlet valve. You will need part number WP8181694. The flow meter measures the amount of water going into the dispenser and relays that information to the control board.

Larry for Model Number 11047701800

Do you have a parts schematic for this Kenmore Elite washing machine that you can email me? I am having a problem with No water filling the machine at start up. I have replaced the Water flow meter, and also order a new water Inlet valve. The washer still does not fill with water. The water supply hose has plenty of water. There is an electronic module on the back of the soap dispenser, with a hose going straight into the washer tub. I think that this module is bad and not allowing water to fill the machine. My email address is Lraustad@searay.com

1 Answer

Hello Larry, I would suggest you run the washer's self-test mode first if it cannot fill there will be a fault code pointing to the cause. The test sheet is usually under the top or behind the lower front service cover. To run the test ,with the control off, tub empty and door closed, presse one of the keypads (except lock or cancel) in for 3 seconds then release for 3 seconds, do this 5 times, on test mode entry the control board will show the code, press the same pad once for up to 4 codes, onthe 5 th press washer will enter a short autotest.
