Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer Motor (Part Number: OEM18030759)

Tj for Model Number lsr9434pto

Whirlpool clothes washer lsr9434pto with issues. It fills and drains fine, however it does spin at all. There is an electrical hum (sounds like it is being impeded) but no rotation through the cycles. There is no adverse smell (electrical or rubber) that would indicate the coupler. What is most likely the cause and what would be the best way to test for it? The customer service chat line person had indicated it sounds like the motor, but I'm not so sure. Would the clutch or drive block be likely?

1 Answer

Hello Tj, This could be an issue with the coupler. The coupler could break and not omit an odor. Since the motor is humming it sounds like it is working and not kicking out on overload. Check the coupler first.

I have a two speed washer, bad motor origional part no. of motor was3349644. This motor had a capicator screwed to the motor itself. The wiring harness plugs into the side of the motor and two additional wires go to the capicator. I ordered on ebay a used motor they sent me a 8528158. No mounting for the capicator and the rpm on the motor shows 1725 rpm. The rpm on the origional motor shows rpm 1725/1125 now there seems to be a mistake somewhere. Is the 8528158 a two speed motor or not.

1 Answer

Hello Larry, The correct part for your unit is WP661600. If the motor that you received is only 1725 RPM then it is a single speed motor if it has just 1 speed reading on it. The WP661600 is showing as a replacement for the motor 8528158.

Hello Mike. Those clips pry off from holding the pump to the motor shaft on the unit.

Hello Jose, I have found that if the motor shaft has rust on it, it binds the pump WP3363394 in such a way that destroys the pump seal. The fix for this is to remove the pump and use sandpaper on the motor shaft until the pump slips on and off easily.

Alex C. for Model Number WTW5540SQ0

My washing machine fills up but does not agitate. After doing the obvious checks, I inspected the motor and saw that the end of the white wire (at the very bottom of the motor switch) burnt off of its connector. So: 1. can I simply replace the wire with another one with the proper end connector? (if so, do you guys sell this part) or does the motor need to be replaced? 2. if all i need to do is replace the wire, what caused this issue? anything serious that I might have done to cause this or just a common problem?

1 Answer

Alex, The damaged terminal could be due to a loose connection, or a possible low voltage problem. If the terminal on the motor switch is not damaged, you should be able to remove the old terminal, install a new terminal (re tip the wire). WP248562 would be the 1/4 in. termianl and the 1/8 in terminals have been discontinued by the manufacturer, so you may have to acquire those at the local "redio shack" or automotive parts store.

Don, No, replacing the timer will not solve the issue. Your basically on track. The wiring diagram indicates you have a "single" speed motor, with an intermittent soak/agitate in the gentle cycle. Your washer is working as designed. We'll be sending you the complete wiring diagram with the cam chart, pay close attention to switch 10 and 14 on the chart.

Harlan for Model Number LSR7233BWO

On regular cycle washer will fill agitate then it is like it has been turned off. except timer will go on thru the cycle like it is supposed to . Replaced timer with oem timer approx. 4 months ago. Have checked voltage to outlet, lid switch but drawing a blank Machine will try to work correctly in the Permenent Press cycle but motor sounds strange and it does not pump out the water completely and spin is slow and incomplete where do you suggest that I go from here short of buying a new washing machine?

1 Answer

Harlan, Based on your post description, you may want to remove and check the drain pump WP3363394, you may have a seizing bearing on the impeller, or something small clogging the ports. Also check the coupler 285753A the "legs" could be bent or cracked.

Hello Terry. If the new pump is leaking, you may have gotten a bad pump and will need another pump.
