Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Pump Gasket (Part Number: OEM8726988)

1 Answer

Joe, In order to replace the motor gasket, there are 4 pins under the motor that you would need to remove in order to lift the pump and motor assembly out. The best way to do this would be to pull the unit out from installation and turn the unit over on its back to access the pins. Once you release the pins the pump assembly will lift out to be able to change the gasket.

Hello roboro1972. If the gasket is not leaking, you will not need to replace the gasket. You need to check and see where the water is leaking from and replace the parts that are leaking. The centering tool is used for the chopper and is needed for proper install.

Richard, There are a couple of things to check, if you haven't yet. Make sure there is at least 1/4 inch clearance between the bottom of the motor assembly and the floor. check and tighten the four mounting supports WP3367197 so the pump seal tightens and may stop the leak. We could supply a basic service manual from the manufacturer, but We'd need a proper email address, and for your specific model number, you'd need to contact Sears/Kenmore Service and purchase a manual from them. Good Luck and Thanks

Mary for Model Number KUDI230B0

My Kitchenaid dishwasher is leaking at the tub/motor assembly seal. I have purchased a replacement gasket. Is there a specific orientation of the gasket (does the 2" part of the gasket without ridges/bumps align with the drain hose?)? How is the plastic white ring installed? Over the gasket once the gasket is seated on the motor assembly? Thanks for any help. Also the soap dispenser has stopped opening during the main wash. Is there a reasonably easy fix for that? The dishwasher is probably 10+ years old. Should I just replace it?

Hi Mary. The ribbed side of the motor gasket faces the motor housing face up. Match the notches under the gasket to the underside of the motor as well. Once the motor gasket is in place, then the white ring slides in from the bottom side in the circumference of the inner groove locking the 2-into place. Use some liquid dishwasher soap to help slide it on the tub (but very sparingly). Tub seal part # 717000. Thank You.

Hello Dave. You will need to install the gasket 717000 onto the pump housing first. Then install the pump housing into the main tub. You may need to use a light coat of cooking oil to help you install the gasket. Hope this helps.

Hi Scott. Remove power. This may take up to a couple of hours. But it is really a remove, clean and reassemble Issue. First remove the rack end clips. Remove the racks. Then remove the water manifold. Gather 1-dozen towels or a wet vac. Take off the lower kick plate. Unhook all electrical components connected to the tub. Remove the pump motor off the side of the sump. Remove the drain hose. Lift the sump assembly from the top of the tub . Then clean the tub. Reinstall the sump squarely but firmly. Then clean and hook up all devices taken apart to reconnect. Best of luck. Thank you.

Hello John. That part is indeed the seal that goes between the tub, and the circulation pump. This seal is responsible for preventing water from leaking out of the tub. I hope this info helps.
