Saurabh February 21, 2015 for Model Number WDF780SLYB0 Hello, I have a Whirlpool Dishwasher model WDF780SLYB0 and I can see that it is leaking water from the diverter valve motor. My question is, is the leak because of a spoilt seal where the diverter motor shaft goes in the sump ( a small black round rubber seal with an opening that is star shaped.) It seems like the motor shaft does not produce a water tight seal here anyway. Or is the issue the rubber gasket around the outlet cover (part number W10315329). I need to change the diverter motor for sure but I am trying to decide if I need to change the sump or just the outlet cover or both. thanks, Saurabh
1 Answer Hello Saurabh. The unit is leaking because the sump assembly WPW10455268 is bad. Read More...
Mike February 11, 2015 for Model Number 665.13042k113 I am having a little leaking from the motor, it looks to be coming from the cylinder that extends down from the motor. Do I need to replace the motor or the sump? I've seen others have had the same problem and it appears to be the seal from the sump. The dishwasher is only 1.5 years old and was fairly expensive, so I wouldn't think I would be having leaking issues already, but this looks to be a common problem. Please include the part number as I am having a hard time finding my actual model number on the parts site. Thank you
1 Answer Mike, With the leak going on around the diverter motor, the sump would need to be replaced. As long as the motor is not damaged then you would not need to replace the motor. Read More...

Troy January 19, 2015 for Model Number 665.12773K310 Original issue: Washer has cyclical groaning on wash cycle and is leaking somewhere. 16 months old. Had repair guy out - found dripping from diverter motor and he ordered a new one. New part came - tech guy 1.5 weeks out - and I got curious. Pulled unit and inverted, motor still rotates as it should, but has definitely had water ingress. Leak appears to be failure of seal around diverter motor shaft that projects upwards into base of washer.I'm OK with replacing motor, since failure is probably imminent, but the SEAL is the problem, no? What part is needed - and how hard is it to replace. Should there be any substance applied to new shaft upon installation to aid in lubrication and sealing? Lastly - I fear the diverter shaft leak has NOTHING to do with the groaning, but the pump IS working according to the tech. Ideas on that?
1 Answer Troy, The seal leaking on the unit at the diverter motor then the part that would be needed is the sump. The sump part number is WPW10455268. To remove this you will want to disconnect all hoses and wiring from the components under the unit. Make sure power supply and water is off. There are 3 tabs around the perimeter that hold the sump in place. Once you get the tabs loose then remove the sump by pushing up through the inner tub. Take all components off the sump and install on new sump and install new diverter motor which would most likely be making the noise and reinstall into unit. Read More...

About 20 minutes into a wash cycle I can see water leaking from the motor (part #AP5650272). I took that part off however I can not identify how the water is getting to that spot. It does not seem to make sense to replace this part. Looking for advice on what needs to be replaced in this situation. Thanks
1 Answer Mike, The seal for the diverter motor is part number WPW10195677 and to replace you would remove the motor and remove the seal install the new seal and reinstall the motor. Read More...
John October 30, 2014 for Model Number KUDE48FXSS5 I can see water leaking from several ports on the bottom of the motor (I can see the part # W10476222). Two questions, 1. Should I replace the motor and/or the seal rings? and 2. Is it best to pull the unit and repair from the bottom or should I leave the unit mounted and pull the motor/sump assemby out? Thank you very much in advance!
1 Answer Hello John. Yes, pull the unit out and replace the assembly WPW10455261 on the unit. Read More...
Tom September 30, 2014 for Model Number KUDE70FXSS5 Water is running down the shaft of the diverter valve motor. when the motor is removed the shaft on the motor does not turn manually. if the shaft is not turning, does this cause the water leak.
1 Answer Tom, No, Not really. The leak is due to the motor W10537869 not sealing to the sump WPW10455268 properly. The water leaking into the motor assembly eventually causes the motor to seize. You'll need to replace the motor and make sure you have it mounted properly and tightly to the sump. Read More...

Jim June 03, 2014 for Model Number wdt770payw My dishwasher is leaking water at the sump's (PN AP5629560) seal around the motor shaft (PN AP5650272). Will it be necessary to replace both the sump and motor, or just the sump?
1 Answer Jim, In a lot of cases just tightening the two mounting screws on the diverter motor solves the issue. If not, you'll need to replace the sump assembly WPW10195643, that's where the seal is located and set by the factory. Read More...
