This dual water valve is an OEM Replacement Part intended for use with Whirlpool refrigerators that feature both a water dispenser and an ice maker. The purpose of this refrigerator water inlet valve is to supply the necessary water to both the ice maker and the water dispenser in a controlled manner. While its appearance may vary from the original part, it maintains identical functionality and is authorized by the manufacturer as a direct replacement.

Causes of a bad valve can include mineral buildup from hard water, wear and tear over time, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning valve can lead to problems with water flow, affecting both the ice maker and water dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad inlet valve may include:

  • Insufficient ice production or no ice at all
  • Low water pressure or slow water flow from the dispenser
  • Water leakage from the valve area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dual Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18018171)

Bob, You will want to pull the icemaker and check for seeping from the icemaker. Also check to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen. If you do not see signs of dripping down the back wall or shelves then you will want to make sure that the drain behind the wall is not frozen which would cause frozen ice at the bottom of the freezer compartment. If the fill tube and icemaker check ok and the drain is not plugged then you would want to replace the water valve.

Hello Michael. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. My water dispenser is working but water not going to ice maker. When I open the door the light blinks twice pause and repeat. I changed the ice maker but it didn't help. I guess it might be dual water valve, but want to confirm. If so the part shows as 2315533 but then when I go to that part and check my model it says its wrong, then I go to that model and select valve from there and model check also fails. So what part? Great job on delivery of ice maker, arrived in just a couple days! Thanks!

Hello Andrew. Check the size of the ice cubes. If they are to large, replace the water valve. If they are small, but the unit is leaking, replace the icemaker.

Maurice, You will want to check the dispenser bracket to make sure that it is making contact with the microswitch and that the bracket is not broken.

Joe, To remove the icemaker, on the left hand lower wall of the ice compartment there is a cover. To remove this cover you will use a small blade screwdriver in the small hole on the cover and there is a release. Once released the cover will pull out. With the cover off you will want to disconnect the wire harness under the cover and there is a lever on the on the icemaker that you will release. Once released pull on the icemaker and pull the complete unit out. Based on what you are describing it sounds like the tubing for the icemaker fill has broken and you would need part number W11415785 to replace. In order to replace the tubing you will have to remove the shelves in the refrigerator and remove the cover over the water tank. You will remove the square cover on the top of the unit and pull out the tubing. The tubing is connected to the water valve above the water tank.
