The Suspension Rod Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes four suspension rods designed to support the washing machine's tub assembly. By absorbing vibrations and stabilizing the tub during the spin cycle, these rods play a crucial role in reducing noise and preventing the washing machine from moving excessively.

Causes of a bad Suspension Rod Kit can include normal wear and tear, overloading the washing machine, or frequent heavy cycles that put extra strain on the rods.

Symptoms of a bad Suspension Rod Kit include:

  • The washing machine is excessively noisy during the spin cycle.
  • The tub seems unbalanced or moves more than usual, even with light loads.
  • The washing machine "walks" or moves from its original position during operation.
  • Unfinished cycles or error codes indicating an unbalanced load.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Hello Cubes, When you push in on the clips you have to raise up on the main top at the same time. After you get the first one, you can put the handle of a screwdriver under the main top to prevent the top from snapping back down. Proceed to the next one and don't forget to catch the screwdriver as you raise the top. You don't need it damaging the floor, or worse yet, stuck up in your foot!

Eric, Have you removed the wash plate(agitator) to see if theres an article underneath it ? here are some instructions for accessing and servicing the suspension rods. "1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Turn off the water supply to the washer. 3. Disconnect the hot and cold water hoses from the rear of the washer, and remove the end of the drain hose from the standpipe or laundry tub.4. Remove the basket and lint filter from the washer. Raise the cabinet top Tape the washer lid closed. e) Using a putty knife, press and unlock the two front top locks. The locks are approximately 6-1/2? from the outside edge of the washer. To remove the basket: a) Loosen the clamp and pull the recirculation hose off the tub ring. b) Pry out and unsnap the tub ring tabs from the tub and remove the tub ring. Insert the blade of a small screwdriver into the slot in the impeller cap, then pry the cap up, and remove it. Remove the 7/16? hex-head bolt from the impeller, then lift and remove the impeller from the basket. NOTE: Lifting the basket will assist in removing the impeller.Lift the basket out of the washer. NOTE: Have a shop cloth handy to clean off any grease from your hands. 5. Remove the four suspension rod assemblies from the washer. To remove a rod assembly: a) Grasp the rod several inches below the suspension ball, and lift the rod so the hooked end is free of the ball . b) Rotate the suspension ball so that the slotted side is parallel with the hooked end of the rod, and slide the rod out of the ball. Keep the ball in its holder.c) Reach down along the side of the tub, and press in on the suspension rod holder locking tabs, then push the holder out of the tub opening. d) Position the suspension rod through the slot in the tub opening, and remove the rod assembly from the washer. NOTE: Unsnap the wire holder from the right rear suspension rod before removing it." I would reccomend you use a silicone based grease WP26594P to liberally lube the ball and socket assembly, once you've checked them for damage and distortion. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Bill. You will need to use a flat blade putty or butter knife and release the clips under the lip of the top panel in the front. These can be very hard to press in and you will need to raise up on the part at the same time as your pressing the clip WP8563785. Hope this helps.

Hello Jethro. Yes, you can repair and replace the suspension W10820048 for the top of the machine with the top raised. You may need to access from the bottom, if you have a hard time getting the springs to seat in the bottom of the tub assembly. Hope this helps.

Jethro for Model Number wtw6400sw2

I have constant "UL" code and banging and noise. I looked at my suspension rods all are in tact and not rusted or broken, when they go bad, is it just the spring lost its tension to support drum? Or should I see something broken or rusted or loose? Also I opend top and looked at all the rods but did not take a very close detail look, how do you install the rods? does the whole install happen from the top or will I need to tilt or lay washer on side to access the bottom of the drum? Confused and other answers ared vauge??? thanks Jeff PS as soon as I get your answer I will purchase the kit, thanks also is there only one kit or a certain part# for my model# wtw6400sw2

Jethro, It's not that common for the springs or rods fail, but the pivots on the top of the assembly can "dry" out and need lubrication. "1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Turn off the water supply to the washer. 3. Disconnect the hot and cold water hoses from the rear of the washer, and remove the end of the drain hose from the standpipe or laundry tub. 4. Remove the basket and lint filter from the washer NOTE: Have a shop cloth handy to clean off any grease from your hands.5. Remove the four suspension rod assemblies from the washer. To remove a rod assembly: a) Grasp the rod several inches below the suspension ball, and lift the rod so the hooked end is free of the ball.b) Rotate the suspension ball so that the slotted side is parallel with the hooked end of the rod, and slide the rod out of the ball. Keep the ball in its holder. c) Reach down along the side of the tub, and press in on the suspension rod holder locking tabs, then push the holder out of the tub opening. d) Position the suspension rod through the slot in the tub opening, and remove the rod assembly from the washer. NOTE: Unsnap the wire holder from the right rear suspension rod before removing it." clean and lube both the "ball and socket" on all four rods, and reverse the procedure. Also insure the washer is level in both directions and the leveling leg lock bolts are tight and locked in place. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Dennis. You will need to release the clip locks WP8563785 under the top panel on the front corners. You will need to use a flat blade putty or butter knife to do this. Press in on the locks and lift the top upward and lean it back. You can now access and replace the suspension W10820048. Hope this helps.
